The Senior Environmental Planner undertakes complex environmental assessments requiring a diverse knowledge of environmental sciences and strong writing skills. With a working knowledge of environmental disciplines related to transportation projects, the successful candidate will use experience and judgement to solve problems for a wide range of public and private sector clients. The Senior Environmental Planner will coordinate large multi-disciplinary teams, document all aspects of the environmental assessment process, and identify relevant permits and approvals.
- Lead the preparation of environmental assessments for transportation and transit planning projects (including the MCEA, MTO, TPAP)
- Coordinate technical teams, subject matter experts and sub-consultant resources to deliver projects. Analyze and consolidate input from multi-disciplinary specialists and consultants
- Work with regulatory agencies and stakeholders to identify and address issues and approval/permitting requirements
- Support the preparation of consultation materials including notices, newsletters, presentations and Public Information Centre display materials
- Interact with clients, regulators, stakeholders, First Nations and the public
- Provide advice on environmental assessment processes
- Prepare project management plans, including scope and schedule
- Prepare effective proposals and undertake business development activities
- Prepare technical reports, presentations, and other documentation
- Follow quality assurance/quality control, and health and safety requirements
Required Qualifications:
- University degree in urban/regional planning, civil engineering, or related field
- Eligibility to become a Registered Professional Planner or Professional Engineer is an asset
- Experience leading transportation-related environmental assessments under the Ontario Environmental Assessment Act (e.g. MCEA, TPAP)
- Experience developing and leading consultation plans that involve diverse stakeholders (e.g. public, Indigenous communities, agencies)
- Keen interest in supporting the development of sustainable transportation
Preferred Qualifications:
- IAP2 certificate or other consultation/facilitation training is an asset
- Knowledge of ArcGIS and/or Adobe Creative Suite is an asset
- A Class “G” Driver’s License is an asset
- Proven writing skills for a variety of different settings (e.g. technical writing, public consultation experience
- Ability to regularly attend client and public meetings in person in the Greater Golden Horseshoe and beyond
