Sr. Director - NA Emerging Payment Products, RTP

Job Purpose:

As a senior director commercialisation, you will drive the proposition, go to market and commercialisation activities for Real Time Payments and Open Banking solutions in Canada. You will be responsible for bringing the product vision to life, managing the Go to Market strategy and coordinating with internal stakeholders (Global Product, Regional MDs and Cluster Teams) and our external partners / third party suppliers. You’ll work closely with the respective Solutions and Account Leads and have senior exposure throughout the organisation.

As part of the NA Product organisation, you will contribute to the latest and most innovative ideas through the product development lifecycle. You will operate as the key liaison between clients and product owners to deliver next generation product offerings to our customers. You will play a key role in ideating and co-creating new features and products that uniquely meet the needs of Visa’s customers and prospects. You will be a member of NA Product team, looking after the Canadian commercialisation strategy & development of Visa’s Real Time Payments & Open Banking solutions.

Real-time payments (RTP) and Open Banking are strategic initiative areas at Visa, focused on building the next generation payment network connecting individuals and businesses with banks, fin-tech players, countries and regions with the flexibility to use a variety of payment instruments – from cards to tokens and bank accounts or representative identity. As the world moves to digital, Visa is applying our brand, products, people, network and scale to reshape the future of commerce.

The candidate must have experience with product innovation, strategy and go to market, ideally in account based payments.

The role does not require frequent travel and is based in Toronto.

Key accountabilities:   

  • Support the development of the RTP & Open Banking product and commercialisation strategy, go-to-market plans and all elements related to product documents (concept document, use cases, business case and product backlog).
  • Responsible for building and sustaining relationships with RTP and Open Banking partners across Canada  (working closely with the account and product teams)
  • Responsible for building business cases and materials for buy-in across the organization
  • Serve as champion and subject matter expert of Open Banking and RTP – share regional/global knowledge with key stakeholders in markets
  • Identifying partnership opportunities to support Visa’s strategy (eg go to market distribution partners or third party suppliers), working closely with the local market teams to manage constructive relationships
  • Manage large scale, cross-functional programs to coordinate the commercialisation of Visa’s RTP and OB solutions. Includes defining the strategy, go to market approach, pricing, business case and delivery set up of Visa’s propositions, incorporating product, technology, marketing and operations input. Experience running Agile programs is beneficial.
  • Coordinate multiple stakeholders (at junior and senior levels) and multiple competing priorities across the organisation
  • Driving Canadian business development and sales initiatives, establishing strong working relationships across key banks, billers / BSPs, central banks, and regulatory bodies
  • Partnering with regional product and executive teams to develop and prioritise Visa’s RTP and OB strategy within the wider organisation
  • Identify commercial opportunities utilizing Visa’s Open Banking and RTP solutions that solve specific pain points for our clients
  • Clearly understand and articulate the value of Visa’s products and drive the development of product, features and functionality. Support the creation of collateral to present internally (building up RTP and OB knowledge across the organisation) or externally to prospective clients and partners.
  • Define and lead projects to conduct market research or customer testing for Visa’s new product concepts.  Translate these market and customer insights to drive product strategy and go to market / commercialisation decisions.
  • Proactively monitor external developments, industry trends or competitor insights and apply these to opportunities or risks for Visa’s RTP and OB strategy.
  • Build cross-functional consensus among internal and external stakeholders to drive business results.

This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:

• 12 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 10 years of work
experience with an Advanced degree (e.g. Masters/MBA /JD/MD), or a minimum of 5 years of work
experience with a PhD

Preferred Qualifications:
• 15 or more years of experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 12 years of experience with an
Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, or MD), PhD with 9+ years of experience
• Experienced payments professional with strong business acumen, a strategic outlook and creative
approach to innovation. Experience in payment flows (card, account-to-account etc.) in key areas
such as commercialisation and product strategy. Experience of associated value-added services is
beneficial.
• Strategic thinking skills – ability to anticipate upcoming trends and changes in the broader
environment and apply them to create competitive advantage for Visa.
• Exceptional communicator – able to adapt communication strategies to the needs of their audience
(e.g., simplifying complex technical messages). You will need to craft and present content to
internal and external stakeholders of varying levels of seniority.
• Commercial acumen – Has a strong understanding of product financials (e.g., ROI, P&L, opportunity
costs, etc.) to ensure product delivers expected revenue targets.
• Critical thinking - Able to methodically break down problems into smaller components to enable a
deeper understanding of root causes of key issues. Evaluates points for improvement and can
creatively solve complex and ambiguous problems to reach new and unconventional modes of
resolution.
• Innovative and creative mindset – thinking outside the box and not afraid to raise new ideas and
challenge the status quo
• Problem solving – uses creativity and resourcefulness to overcome unexpected roadblocks
• Customer centricity - Collaborates with other teams to evaluate client’s needs and identifies ways to
address key challenges.
• Cross functional communication - Excellent communication and presentation skills. Excellent
command of both written and spoken English
• Organisation - Ability to work on projects across teams and ensure project deadlines are met
• Strong team player with demonstrated ability to collaborate and work effectively across functional
areas to build consensus and achieve goals. Contribution to a positive team ethos and start to
develop people management skills.
• A high, self-defined standard of excellence and drive for continual improvement
• Experience with Agile working practices and toolsets
• Proficiency in Excel and PowerPoint
