About The Role 
Highspot is hiring a Senior Director, Accounting to help set the long-term strategy and be a leader in Highspot’s Accounting and Financial Operations department. Reporting to the VP of Accounting and Financial Operations based in Seattle, they will collaborate with other leaders and team members to drive and deliver on department and company-wide initiatives. This is an exceptional opportunity to not only join a well-funded global company in hyper-growth mode but lead and grow an already established high-performing team. The role is a hands-on position responsible for ensuring we have accurate financials, identifying and monitoring financial risks then driving controllership initiatives, and implementing systems and processes improvements to scale. 

This person will be a leader and mentor to our department and the broader CFO organization, be able to identify and work through complex and ambiguous issues, and be comfortable working outside their defined scope to better the overall department/company and our team members. The ideal candidate will have extensive experience in US GAAP and others areas such as SEC, SOX, etc.,, built and led large high-performing teams, is able to get into the details and then develop strategy to solve complex issues, has a passion for building processes and automation, and thrives in a fast-paced environment.

What You'll Do

  • Establish strategic vision and goals for the team focusing policies, procedures, and processes that ensure accurate accounting and tax records and timely reporting.
  • Ensure all financial transactions are properly recorded, filed, and reported in accordance with accounting policies on a monthly, quarterly, and annual basis, including quality control over financial transactions and reporting; Oversee and direct reporting requirements, including GAAP, and statutory financial statements. 
  • Continually assess and drive improvements in global accounting, tax, treasury, reporting, and financial operations, encompassing team, organizational structure, operating processes, and systems. 
  • Lead our team through complex and ambiguous issues or transactions by diving into the details, creating the vision, motivating the team, and driving exceptional results.
  • Help lead the monthly accounting close process in a hands-on and visible way, through close collaboration with the team in resolving emergent issues, fostering cross-functional collaboration.
  • Leverage technical accounting knowledge to assess and account for unusual, infrequent and/or complex transactions.
  • Support our consolidated and statutory audits and tax filings by helping to create processes and reviews that ensure accurate financial information and resolving issues as they arise.
  • Optimize the use of tools and accounting-related systems to leverage automation, create efficiencies and improve the company’s close process and accuracy of our financial records.
  • Manage a team of direct and indirect reports, with performance management and development responsibilities.
  • Foster collaboration, transparency and a results-oriented mindset amongst leaders, managers and other stakeholder groups.
  • Attract, motivate, develop, and retain a high-performing team and to raise the bar in performance. 
  • Promote a high-performance culture by cultivating and motivating direct/indirect reports through coaching, mentoring, and by providing regular and meaningful feedback.
  • Forge strong relationships and collaborate with a range of stakeholders groups to define and achieve objectives.
  • Model and encourage open, honest, and direct communications and with productive debate to achieve optimal solutions.

Your Background

  • Experienced leader with at least 15 years of progressive experience with a mix of Big 4 and industry experience at a software or tech company with multiple product lines. 
  • Track record of managing and improving end-to-end financial processes with a well-rounded skill set across accounting controllership, tax, and treasury. 
  • Innovative thinker around the structure of the accounting teams and use of technology to build a highly efficient and automated function. 
  • Thorough knowledge of GAAP accounting principles and procedures including experience with GAAP technical accounting research and new accounting standard implementation.
  • Demonstrated history of solving multiple and complex challenges through critical thinking and requiring cross-functional collaboration. 
  • Experience in internal control design and financial process optimization. 
  • Ability to work successfully cross-functionally in a fast-paced environment and serve as a trusted business partner. 
  • Multiple years of management experience and track history of progressing and developing people and driving high performance.
  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in accounting (minimum) and CPA or equivalent
  • Strong process improvement experience across all functions (tax, treasury, revenue recognition, accounting, etc), including close schedule improvement experience. 
  • Results and metrics-oriented with a proactive, hands on, get-stuff-done mindset. 
  • Passionate about leadership with the ability to build a high-performing and multi-disciplinary team. 
  • Sharp, forward-thinking problem solver with high standards of excellence and comfort with driving change. 
  • High energy, positive presence along with top-notch written and verbal communication skills.

Base salary range: $156,522 - $234,783. Employees may also be eligible for bonuses, stock options, and other forms of compensation.

The above represents total expected compensation for this role. Actual compensation will depend on various job-related factors, including, but not limited to, location, experience, and job qualifications.
