Why you want this job

As a Data Engineer III, you will be a senior member of the team, tasked with scaling and optimizing our data systems while providing mentorship to junior and mid-level engineers. Reporting to Ken Myers, you’ll work on key machine learning projects like recommendation engine and design new data models and ETL jobs to support business processes. You’ll also have the opportunity to optimize media spend pipelines and support various cross-functional teams, including marketing, ensuring seamless data operations that enhance decision-making across the company.

What you’ll do

  • Lead collaboration with product and engineering teams to develop scalable data solutions that address both operational and business needs.
  • Mentor junior and mid-level engineers, demonstrating best practices and helping them build confidence in their data engineering skills.
  • Design, build, and maintain data infrastructure for ETL processes, utilizing technologies such as Databricks, SQL Server, and AWS.
  • Develop and optimize analytics tools, providing insights into business metrics like customer acquisition, operational efficiency, and media spend.
  • Create and enhance data tools that support analytics teams in optimizing products and driving business insights.
  • Own and improve ETL jobs that support machine learning models and other critical business processes.
  • Provide regular status updates to cross-functional teams and stakeholders, aligning technical efforts with business goals.

What you'll need

Minimum Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in a Data Engineer role or a related field, with a bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Statistics, Information Systems, or another quantitative field
  • Expert knowledge of SQL and advanced experience with data warehouse design and data modeling
  • Expertise in ETL, data pipeline technologies, Pub/Sub models, REST API, and workflow management tools
  • Proficiency with data warehousing platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake and relational database systems like SQL Server and MySQL
  • Programming proficiency in Python, Java, or Scala for building and optimizing data pipelines.  
  • Proficiency in cloud services (AWS, Azure, Google Cloud), including experience designing and managing data infrastructure on cloud platforms
  • Experience with stream-processing systems like Apache Spark and Kafka
  • Experience with data visualization tools like Tableau, PowerBI, or Looker, with an ability to develop dashboards and optimize reports for actionable business insights 

Preferred Qualifications

  • Direct experience with Databricks or Snowflake.
  • Advanced experience building, optimizing, and maintaining ETL processes in cloud environments.
  • Proven track record in designing a data warehouse and building ETL jobs to populate warehouse objects.
  • Demonstrated experience with building reporting tools that provide actionable insights for business units.
