About the team and position
The Specialist, Benefits role is a critical part of the Total Rewards team. You will be responsible for day-to-day administration of the company’s health plans (including medical and dental), welfare plans (including life, STD, LTD), the 401(k) Plan and other voluntary employee perks and benefits. You have a passion for helping people understand how to make the most of their benefits. Your primary focus is to deliver an amazing employee experience while making sure our programs are running smoothly and in compliance.
What you’ll be doing
- Day-to-day administration of all benefits programs.
- Manage the benefits email inbox, respond to Team Carvana inquiries, & resolve escalated issues.
- Manage enrollment and life events through Workday.
- Review, reconcile, & process monthly vendor billing.
- Work with carriers & vendors to assist in resolving employee questions.
- Process monthly employer HSA contributions.
- Respond to and process National Medical Support Notices.
- Interpret vendor contracts, policies, SPDs, plan docs, etc. to answer questions and problem-solve.
- Assist in communicating and executing annual Open Enrollment.
- Conduct benefits education/orientation sessions.
- Assist in developing and communicating benefits content to promote & increase teammate understanding of benefits programs.
- Assist with implementation of new plans or changes to existing plans.
- Prepare various monthly and ad hoc reports.
- Demonstrate an understanding of various benefits laws including ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, FMLA, ADA, Section 125, Section 132, 401(k)
- Keep all impacted stakeholders, including employees, vendors, payroll and management, notified of pertinent issues, status updates, and areas of concern.
- Keep up to date on all department policies to ensure accurate and compliant communication.
- Maintain historical benefits files and records.
- Assist with special projects as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
What you should know
- 2+ years in an HR or related role with at least 1 year involved in Benefits administration.
- Intermediate understanding of medical, dental, vision, life, disability, HSA, FSA, commuter, 401(k), and other benefits programs with ability to explain provisions to employees.
- Working knowledge of benefits regulations including ACA, HIPAA, COBRA, ERISA, & Section 125
- Proficient with electronic benefits enrollment platforms, experience with Workday is a plus.
- Ability to work in a high volume, high growth, fast-paced environment with changing priorities.
- Highest level of customer service and sense of urgency.
- Superior attention to detail and organizational skills.
- Ability to be self-directed and proactive in work activities.
- Consistently able to use ultimate discretion regarding confidential and sensitive personnel data.
- Comfortable speaking to groups of people in person and over Zoom
