The Role

The Financial Times is looking for a Manila-based audio engineer to join our growing global audio team. This is an exciting time to join the FT as it expands its audio offering and focuses on growing listeners with a slate of premium shows. You will work closely with the lead engineer based in London to help mix shows and address technical queries, primarily out of NY and the US more broadly. The FT produces a broad range of content, including our flagship narrative business show Behind the Money, the Life & Art podcast and our popular daily, FT News Briefing. While primarily working to support FT News Briefing with their daily production, you will form an integral part of a team that works hard to achieve a high standard of recording and mixing across all of our shows. 

You should be technically adept and creative with audio. You will also be meticulous, detail-oriented and have a good ear for music and timing. You must have a passion for podcasts and sound design. This role requires a high level of proficiency with Pro Tools. This role reports to Minnie Advincula in Manila with a dotted line to our UK-based senior sound engineer. You will also be in regular communication with our team in the US producing the FT News Briefing.

This is a great opportunity to join a team that is pushing to innovate in audio. You will form an integral part in the expansion of the global team, joining colleagues in the US and the UK.

Responsibilities:

  • Is an exceptional editor with a drive to produce great output, consistently
  • Has the ability to communicate technical information to a broad range of people 
  • Is organised and can prioritise tasks under deadline 
  • Takes a creative approach to sound design
  • Possesses a deep knowledge of podcast formats 
  • Can work collaboratively across teams
  • Has an affinity with the FT’s digital journalism 
  • Finalise mixes from producers and the senior sound engineer, adding effects, cleaning up tracks and smoothing edits
  • Train journalists in recording best practice 
  • Assist producers in finding the most apt music for their podcasts 

Requirements: 

  • Proven experience as an engineer and/or sound designer
  • Highly-skilled in DAWs, particularly Pro-Tools and Descript 
  • Background in engineering for narrative radio, podcasting and/or news is a plus
