What does your job look like?
As a Solutions Architect, you will design and implement solutions based on Java platform best practices and reference architectures. While daily programming isn't required, a strong understanding of microservices, distributed systems, and software engineering fundamentals is essential.
Key Responsibilities:
Client & Governance:
- Provide insights into integrations and relationships between systems.
- Assist in technology selection to address specific use cases (e.g., choosing MongoDB over PostgreSQL).
- Document solution architectures and assist in planning to enhance team visibility regarding upcoming functionalities.
Squad Development:
- Clarify the responsibilities and integration of software components developed by each squad.
- Validate component designs with the development team to ensure system interoperability.
- Advise development squads on Cloud Native design best practices, particularly for Azure environments.
Commercial:
- Assist in developing technology solution proposals.
- Help determine timelines and scopes for commercial proposals.
Architecture:
- Document and model architecture from various viewpoints (e.g., 4+1 views, UML, BMPN).
- Quickly grasp business concepts to effectively communicate with product owners and architects.
Required Skills & Qualifications:
- Proficiency in documenting and modeling architectures using UML, BMPN, and Archimate.
- Understanding of microservices architectural styles and design patterns like CQRS and SAGA.
- Familiarity with API design and management using OpenAPI (Swagger) and API management tools.
- Experience with cloud services and infrastructure on Azure, including managed services like RDS, SQS, and SNS.
- Basic understanding of security and observability components, including KMS, Secrets Manager, and tools like Datadog and ELK.
- Exposure to DevOps practices and CI/CD tools (GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins).
- Knowledge in infrastructure as code (Terraform) and container technologies (Docker, Kubernetes).
Desirable Qualifications:
- Project management experience with a PMP framework.
- Broad understanding of Agile methodologies beyond just Scrum.
- Familiarity with service mesh technologies like Linkerd and cloud platforms like GCP.
Technical Environment:
- Cloud Platforms: Azure (primary), GCP (nice to have)
- CI/CD: GitHub Actions, GitLab CI/CD, Jenkins
- Programming: Java 11+ (essential understanding, not coding)
- Version Control: Git, with a focus on branch strategy
