THE POSITION

We’re looking an experienced SRE/DevOps Engineering Manager who enjoys helping and coaching those around them. With a passion for delivery and working with other managers to help solve stakeholder problems you’ll be comfortable communicating with senior stakeholders, reporting progress and raising risk & issues as they occur along with suggested mitigations. You’ll be able to use your existing Software Engineering knowledge to help stakeholders understand the delivery process.

You know where to simplify, optimize, or extend solutions for the best outcomes. You’re excited to help develop and grow Engineers within your team, providing an out-standing employee experience tailored to their individual needs. You should have a proven ability to grow a team and lead it to success. You will show a pragmatic approach to problem solving, your experience should be built on a solid foundation of engineering development and operational excellence, and you should be able to show a proven background in coaching and people management. You’re comfortable holding 1-on-1s and helping people recognize and achieve goals. You’re responsible for leading your team and guiding the members within it towards success as it delivers important features and capabilities to agreed deadlines.

THE GAME PLAN
Everyone on our team has a part to play

  • You will help and coach your team both from a technical and people perspective whilst championing operational excellence & site reliability.
  • You will manage a team of agile DevOps Engineers
  • You will be building out a team of DevOps Engineers in Atlanta and working with a DevOps team and manager in the UK (occasional travel may be required)
  • You have experience of using tools such a Jira and Confluence for planning and processes.
  • Take a leading role in planning and communicating the future roadmap for the DevOps & Site Reliability culture in the Core Products & Experiences domain
  • Work and collaborate with a range of technology stakeholders to promote ideas and implements new processes, tools or technologies
  • Will drive constructive discussions, dive deeply into technical details (e.g., dependencies, design choices, operability), and ensure there is a clear direction.
  • Help make trade-offs; balancing the larger picture (e.g, resourcing, business goals, user experience, dependency impacts, efficiency, availability, etc.) against the needs of building, maintaining, refactoring, scaling, and extending features to properly support the life of the technology. You make sure your SEs can spend adequate time on design and you seek their (and the Staff Engineer's) input on technology recommendations.
  • Responsible for delivering architecturally sound solutions in the absence of a highly experienced individual contributor
  • You can handle most problems, decisions and escalations providing realistic solutions to mitigate long-term risks.
  • Write tenets and clear documents around establishing best-practice processes.
  • Exhibit best behavior and exemplify our company behaviors.
  • Responsible for taking part in the recruitment process identifying the best candidates and providing a great candidate experience.

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

You will be passionate about imparting knowledge and building, growing, and leading successful teams. Ideally, you will have a background in software engineering and code and repository delivery alongside proven people management and leadership skills in a technology environment.

  • Experience implementing a DevOps culture and tool set and a strong DevOps technology background
  • Experience working with CI platforms and pipelines to create efficiencies
  • Ideally you will have worked with AWS cloud-based infrastructure and Kubernetes
  • The ability to build relationships across a range of stakeholders whilst also being able to challenge
  • People management, communication, presentation and facilitation skills
  • Ability to pressure-test solutions, spot edge-cases and work with other Engineers to solve these.
  • Experience defining and implementing software delivery best practices, agile delivery methodologies and proven track-record of continuously improving delivery pace while maintaining quality.
  • Experience supporting software systems in production including on-call support with a relentless focus on improving the stability, availability and performance of those systems.
  • Delivery of technology solutions working closely with multiple stakeholders and users.
  • Experience of working with cross-functional teams, including Project Managers and Product Managers and other stakeholders to define the roadmap for development to new or existing products/services
  • Experience of writing distributed, highly scalable and available backend systems & APIs.
