Software Engineering Intern

Primary Function of Position

The Ion™ endoluminal system is Intuitive's robotic platform for minimally invasive biopsy in the peripheral lung, with an initial goal of improving the early diagnosis of lung cancer. As a PlanPoint software intern, you will join a small team of experienced software developers. You will take on projects focused on improving features, stability, and scalability of the PlanPoint software application.

Essential Job Duties

• Work as part of a cross-functional team in a fast-paced, start-up-like business unit
• Contribute to algorithms and software implementations in areas such as language localization, medical image investigation, automated test solutions, and user interface design
• Prototype and iterate on designs

Required Skills and Experience

• Knowledge and experience with C++ or C#
• Familiar with at least three of the following software best practices: object-oriented programming, unit testing, automated testing, version control systems (Git), error handling and logging, design patterns, performance optimization

University Hiring Program Eligibility Requirements:

• University Enrollment: Must be currently enrolled in and returning to an accredited degree-seeking academic program in the Fall.
• Internship Work Period: Must be available to work full-time (approximately 40 hours per week) during a 10-12 week period starting May or June. Specific start dates are shared during the recruiting process.

Required Education and Training

• Current enrollment in a Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Electrical & Computer Engineering, or related degree-seeking program at the Doctorate level. Master's level students will be considered based on specific relevant experience. 

Preferred Skills and Experience

• Familiarity with development in a Linux environment
• Experience with GUI development in Qt/QML
• Experience with OpenGL and 3D rendering
• Experience with parallel programming and Cuda
• Experience with game engines such as Unity or Unreal Engine

The hourly rate is prorated against the intern program salaries listed and total program compensation will be based on internship duration.
