Job Description: Software Engineer – Performance Engineering

We are seeking a Software Engineer - Performance Engineering with a passion for optimizing the performance of complex software systems. A Software Engineer - Performance Engineering at VISA needs to be able to diagnose performance bottleneck. When diagnosing a performance issue, they need to be able to work with application logs, and dive deeper into the source code, profiling information, and OS and system metrics to RCA performance issues. They need to be able to run experiments and benchmarks to understand the performance of a complex distributed system and isolate performance issues. They also need to have good judgement and experience to know what performance issues have the biggest impact to our customers. They need to be organized and able to clearly present results and recommendations to development teams. They need to be comfortable reading, modifying, and optimizing Java code to test performance hypotheses. In this role, you’ll be the performance engineer within an agile team working with other performance engineers.

You’ll drive performance awareness, develop test plans, acquire and implement testing tools, and execute exploratory testing. Your expertise will ensure our platform delivers an excellent user experience, even under peak loads.

This is a critical role where your contributions will directly impact the scalability and efficiency of our software, working closely with development teams to advise on and enhance performance throughout the software lifecycle.

Responsibilities

  • Drive awareness of performance-related techniques and issues within the development team.

  • Develop performance tests plans and strategies in conjunction with new software development.

  • Develop and acquire performance testing tools and frameworks and implement test software for acceptance.

  • Execute exploratory testing and acceptance of new features/releases as part of a story-driven Agile development process.

  • Serve as an advisor to development teams on enhancing performance.

 

    This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

    Basic Qualifications:

    • Bachelor's degree, OR 3+ years of relevant work experience


    Preferred Qualifications:

    • 2 or more years of work experience
    • Experience in JAVA, including front-end and API development and testing
    • Experience with one of the performance testing frameworks/tools (Jmeter, Loadrunner, Blazemeter)
    • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
    • A bachelor’s degree in computer science or relevant degree is preferred

    Good to Have:

    • Experience with performance monitoring of database servers and writing SQL queries
    • Ability to Conduct High TPS performance testing
    • Experience with Splunk/Elastic and Grafana dashboards
    • Experience working with distributed databases systems, such as MongoDB, Redis, etc
