We are working on multiple technology stacks and want to add a highly motivated Lead Engineer to our Commercial Payments organization in Foster City, CA. Visa's Commercial Payments organization is responsible for managing Visa's B2B Payment Global adoption on Cross-Border funds movement, innovation agenda and the management of strategic partnerships with critical financial institutions. This group is responsible for defining and building the Non-Card based payment innovation and product for Visa Inc. Globally. This includes:

•              Distributed-Ledger based Cross border payment platform

•              Near time Settlement 

•              Enterprise ID stamping to create a digital identity for corporate entities

•              Hyperledger chain-code development

•              End-to-End Payment eco-system 

•              Analytics and Data visualization

Essential Functions

•              Work on emerging technologies, building highly scalable, secure, reliable and fault tolerant distributed systems

•              Leads collaboration with stakeholders (e.g., product owner, project manager, technical lead, architects) and uses understanding of tradeoffs and project costs to determine requirements for a project. 

•              Proactively seeks clarification on non-functional requirements (NFR) to understand their impact on the system. Leads junior engineers in understanding requirements across solution delivery.

•              Present technical solutions, capabilities, considerations, and features in business terms. Effectively communicate status, issues, and risks in a precise and timely manner.

•              Leads discussions for architecture of products/solutions, helps to refine code plans, and shares learnings and identified solutions from investigations with the team.

•              Provides recommendations on scope and scale of project plans and uses technical expertise to inform the elements of release plans and work items across end-to-end solutions, using knowledge of different methodologies. 

•              Leads by example and provides direction for others to produce extensible, testable, and maintainable code used across products.

•              Creates and applies metrics to drive the quality and stability of code, as well as appropriate coding patterns, guidelines, styles, and best practices. 

•              Drives and contributes to revisions to the security assessment process to ensure code is free from threat or risk

•              Find opportunities to create, design and implement internal process improvements: automating manual processes, optimizing data delivery, re-designing infrastructure for greater scalability and resiliency

•              Provides technical leadership during code reviews to ensure coding standards are followed for a product

•              Proactively seeks new knowledge and adapts to new trends, technical solutions, and patterns that will improve the availability, reliability, efficiency, observability, and performance of products, sharing knowledge with and mentoring other engineers. This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 2-3 set days a week (determined by leadership/site), with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.

Basic Qualifications:
• 8+ years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD, OR 11+ years of relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications:
• 9 or more years of relevant work experience with a Bachelor Degree in Math, Science, Engineering, or Computer Science, Information Systems or related field or 7 or more relevant years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 or more years of experience with a PhD
• Expertise in at least two of the following general purpose programming languages: Java/Go/Scala/Python/JavaScript
• 5+ years of experience building highly available and fault tolerant distributed systems
• 4+ years of experience in a leadership role with or without direct reports
• Experience working in Unix/Linux environments, Open source technologies, client-server apps
• Experience working with multiple database models such as Relational DBMS, Document, Columnar and Key-Value Data Stores
• Experience working with Stream processing Systems: Storm, Spark-Streaming, Kafka Streams etc.
• Experience working with big data and messaging platforms: Kafka, Flink, Spark, Hadoop, RabbitMQ
• Experience writing code in multiple programming language paradigms such as Object-Oriented and Functional Programming Languages
• 3+ years experience working with container-based technologies container strategies and ecosystems such as Docker, Kubernetes
• Knowledge of cloud architecture and scalable solutions including service and container orchestration
• Experience building and working with Microservices architectures
• Proven experience in leading teams and collaborating with business and IT partners for end-to-end delivery
• Expertise in continuous integration and delivery with a anything that can be automated should be automated mindset
• 5+ years experience leading project teams
• 5+ years of experience in Trade Finance, Equities, Payments Processing, Wholesale Credit is a plus
• Understanding of data integration patterns, frameworks and concepts is a plus

Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.

Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.

Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting.  The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 159,100.00 to 230,900.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
