Rover.com is hiring a

Software Engineer, Search

Seattle, United States
Full-Time
Who we are:
Want to make an impact? Join our pack and come work (and play!) with us.

We believe everyone deserves the unconditional love of a pet—and at Rover, our mission is to make it easier to experience that love. Founded in 2011, the Rover app and website connect dog and cat parents with loving pet sitters and dog walkers in neighborhoods across the US, Canada, and Europe. We empower our community of trusted pet sitters and dog walkers to run their own pet care businesses on Rover with the tools and security of a global company to back them.

Headquartered in Seattle, Washington, we work closely with our teams in Barcelona, San Antonio, Spokane, and remote locations. We’ve got a reputation for being a great place to work, having been named among the 100 Best Companies to Work For in Seattle Business Magazine and Washington’s Best Workplaces in the Puget Sound Business Journal. We're an agile, fast-growing company, and our leadership comes from some of the world's most respected tech companies.

At Rover, our furry coworkers are just as important as our human ones—and we wouldn’t have it any other way. Along with making the joys of pet parenthood more accessible, we’re committed to fostering a diverse, inclusive, and welcoming community of pet people—and that starts with our employees.

*This is a hybrid position that has the minimum expectation to work out of our Downtown Seattle Office one day per week on Thursdays.

Meet the Search Experience team:
The Search Experience team is focused on making it easy for pet parents to find care for their pets that makes pet owners want to keep using the Rover platform. We are focused on ensuring we have the right data from our providers and present the right information to owners so that they can make informed booking decisions and develop lasting relationships with their sitters.

Some of the team initiatives include:

  • Collect the right information at the right time from owners. Our search algorithm is only as good as the data we collect. Balancing that need to collect information about the owner’s needs vs their desire to just get to the results is a tricky balance to strike and one we plan to dive into

  • Guide searchers to contact the best matches. Our current search experience does not differentiate between sitters adequately. It’s unclear to owners why they should choose a particular provider and how well that provider will meet their needs. Let alone how likely they are to accept the booking given their past history. We aim to change that by exposing more information on why a provider might or might not be a good fit, ensuring that the sitters are available, and ensuring the best matches are surfaced to the owner to make the choice clearer.
