Mill is hiring a

Software Engineer, Marketing

San Bruno, United States

Mill is all about answering a simple question: how can we prevent waste? Less waste can save time, money, energy, maybe even our planet. And there’s no better place to start than food. Food waste is one of the most solvable climate problems facing us today. Plus, our trash really stinks. It’s gross, heavy, and our least favorite chore. At Mill we are striving to build a better environment for all, as we take on climate and kitchen change.

Our small, nimble growth team is passionate about developing well-designed, scalable software to grow our community of customers towards the goal of maximizing Mill’s impact on the planet!  The team owns the marketing site, account site, and the technology and metrics powering our full marketing funnel.  We believe that a clean, delightful interface is important to achieving the best user experience.

We are seeking engineers with excellent technical judgment, who can make high level architecture decisions and are as comfortable building and testing new features, as designing optimal infrastructure.  An ideal candidate will bring a broad set of problem solving skills and relish opportunities to learn and solve novel problems.

We work closely with UX designers, product managers, and testers to devise elegant user experiences and powerful marketing tools to bring our team’s long term vision to life!  An ideal candidate is invested in developing best practices and procedures for our growing team and loves proactively seeking out problems and devising creative solutions, regardless of technology.

Of course, we hope you are as excited to work on sustainability as we are!

Responsibilities:

  • Build foundational Growth infrastructure for running experiments, tracking user behavior, and engaging users
  • Dependable ability to take designs and turn them into responsive, unbreakable HTML and CSS that look as good as the source material
  • Implement well-tested front-end code with an eye towards performance, scale, and SEO best practices to build out Mill’s marketing website (mill.com) and account portal
  • Effectively work in a fast-paced start-up environment by iterating quickly, independently managing projects, and using metrics to feed back learnings
  • Proactively identify needs for internal automation, tools, and infrastructure and deliver user friendly, reliable solutions
  • Our team works closely with third party engineering contractors, so you will be expected to engage effectively by delivering clear specifications and managing execution

Qualifications:

  • B.S. in Computer Science or related field and confident knowledge of core CS concepts such as common data structures and algorithms
  • At least 3 years experience in software development with a focus on UI and front end development.
  • Strong skills with common front end technologies - HTML, CSS, JavaScript.
  • Expertise with a modern UI framework.  We use Svelte.js on the frontend and Vue.js on the backend, but React experience is fine too.
  • Experience using Lambdas or other server side functions
  • Experience with common marketing and advertising technology stacks a huge plus - e.g. Segment, Google Tag Manager, server-side and client-side tracking
  • Strong affinity for testing and documentation

The estimated base salary range for this position is $138k to $180k, which does not include the value of benefits or a potential equity grant. A wide range of factors are considered in making compensation decisions, including but not limited to skill sets, market conditions, experience and training, licensure and certifications, and business and organizational needs. At Mill, it is not typical for an individual to be hired at or near the top of the range for their role.
