Software Engineer - IDE

London, United Kingdom

Every day, the world gets more digital thanks to tens of millions of developers building the future faster than ever. But with exponential growth comes exponential risk, as outnumbered security teams struggle to secure mountains of code. This is where Snyk (pronounced “sneak”) comes in. Snyk is a developer security platform that makes it easy for development teams to find, prioritize, and fix security vulnerabilities in code, dependencies, containers, and cloud infrastructure — and do it all right from the start. Snyk is on a mission to make the world a more secure place by empowering developers to develop fast and stay secure.

Joining Snyk means embracing our core values: One Team, Care Deeply, Customer Centric, and Forward Thinking. As a member of our team, you’ll have the opportunity to thrive in a dynamic environment where fostering collaboration, leading with empathy, driving business impact, and inspiring trust are at the heart of everything we do.

Our Opportunity

As a Software Engineer at Snyk, you'll be at the forefront of building the future of application security. You’ll be challenged to create developer tools and client applications which elevate the developer experience within the IDE while collaborating closely with cross-functional teams. We’re looking for individuals who are passionate about crafting exceptional software, solving complex problems, and driving innovation.

As a part of our Developer Experience team you’ll have the opportunity to build the future of how developers worldwide build more secure applications efficiently. You will work in and contribute to a collaborative and diverse environment, while leveraging the latest development methodologies.

Your contributions will directly impact the success of our product and the security of millions of developers worldwide.

You’ll Spend Your Time:

  • Identifying strategic opportunities for IDE innovations, driving the evolution of developer workflows.  Help developers track down and fix vulnerabilities, making security an easy and automatic part of every developer’s workflow.
  • Analyzing, designing and implementing high-quality solutions to problems with well-tested, maintainable code.
  • Working with teams across Snyk to ensure consistent developer experience for all of Snyk’s products.
  • Building solutions in our IDE plugins for VSCode, IntelliJ, Visual Studio and Eclipse with the long-term in mind, focusing on good design, robust testing, and sustainability.
  • Demonstrating end-to-end ownership for the delivery of key efforts, and leading peers in the delivery of particularly broad efforts as a technical lead.
  • Providing mentorship to more junior engineers, and playing a role in growing the next generation of engineers at Snyk.

What You’ll Need:

  • At least 3 years of commercial experience as a Software Engineer developing software using one of our programming languages (Go, TypeScript, Kotlin).
  • Experience in large-scale software systems design and familiarity with fundamental computer science concepts (algorithms, complexity, data structures).
  • Experience building IDEs or IDE plugins.
  • Experience designing APIs for use by other engineers.
  • Experience in at least one of:
    • Building web UIs, CLI’s, or other client-side developer tools.
    • Building cross-platform client applications on Windows, Mac, Linux.
    • Building infrastructure or platform automation, or observability or release tools.
  • Strong commitment to code quality, and the value of giving and receiving feedback through code reviews.
  • Ability to deal with ambiguity, and respond with agility when requirements and priorities change.
  • Effective communicator both verbally and in writing. Able to work collaboratively, be curious and have a growth mindset.
  • Ability to lift the performance of a team through coaching and mentoring of more junior engineers.

We’d be Lucky if You:

  • Enjoy working on early stage products; talking with customers to identify, prioritize and solve problems iteratively and build something that they really love.
  • Have hands-on experience working with multiple IDEs simultaneously or extensive experience with more than one of the programming languages listed.
  • Feed off complex technical problems and find solutions where others see roadblocks.
