Columbia Road is hiring a

Software Developer - Associate Program 2025 - Tampere

Tampere, Finland

Apply now for the software developer associate position of 2025

Hey there, soon-to-be or recent grad! Looking to turn your skills into real impact? At Columbia Road, we're looking for talented developers to help businesses grow while you grow your career. If you've already gained some hands-on experience in professional software development and are eager to grow in a low-hierarchy, supportive environment, we would love to hear from you. Let’s find your Road!

Who we are

In 2016 Columbia Road was founded to challenge the old ways of doing digital business and running online sales – we exist to help our clients sell better in the digital era. This means we don’t do IT projects like most other companies, instead we work to improve our clients’ business results in a measurable way. Development, design, strategy and marketing just happen to be the tools with which we create our impact.

A key part of our mission is to be an excellent place to work. We are a community-led organisation, which means that we trust our employees to make the best decisions about their work themselves. This company model is based on transparency and low hierarchy. All employees have the opportunity to be involved in company-wide decision-making, and the chance to become an owner of Columbia Road by investing in company stocks. Diversity, equity, and inclusion are at the heart of how we define ourselves and everyone at Columbia Road is committed to these values.

The job

As a software developer, you are interested in what happens under the hood of modern digital sales channels. You’ll get to work together with other Columbia Road consultants in a cross-competence team, building and growing new digital businesses for our customers in various fields of business. This means you may collaborate daily with designers, digital marketers, strategy consultants, as well as our clients' stakeholders and specialists. You will be supported in your learning by peers in both development and other domains, and you’ll have the ability to create real impact in our clients’ businesses.

Your motivation comes from the results and impact your solution creates, rather than the technical beauty of the code. If you're looking for a workplace where you get a lot of responsibility and where you get to learn new things fast from more experienced peers, you'll find it here. You will get to grow with us, nurture your own ambitions and learn new skills within digital sales.

Requirements

Here's how you know you're a good fit

  • You are a student in the final year(s) of your studies, or a recent graduate.
  • You have already gained some professional work experience related to software development. For example, most of our current Associate Consultants had worked part time in a professional setting for a couple of years before joining Columbia Road.
  • You’ve used one or two of the following programming languages (and their most common frameworks) in a professional setting: JavaScript, Typescript, Clojure, Scala, PHP or Python.
  • You are self-driven, proactive and want to continuously learn new things.
  • You understand the basics of digitalisation and you approach problems in an analytical manner.
  • You would love to work with challenging client cases supported by a diverse community of digital sales professionals.
  • You are comfortable communicating matters related to your own work and you enjoy working with other people in an agile environment – it’s not a problem for you to present your own ideas to a small group of people from time to time, for example in a workshop.
  • You have a “get things done” attitude towards your work.

Please note: We value close and constant collaboration in our team work – whether it’s with customers, fellow Roadies and/or consultants from other companies – as it enables us to learn from each other and work more efficiently towards a shared goal. Often this is achieved best by working from the same location. Hence, we can only consider candidates who live (or plan to move) within commuting distance of Helsinki or Tampere and are open to working on-site according to client needs.

We are currently not able to offer visa sponsorships for Finland, so, unfortunately, we can't consider applications from outside EU/EEA.

Benefits

  • A community-led organisation with a high level of autonomy
  • Option to buy stocks of the company through the common employee share program
  • A yearly bonus based on company performance (equal to all full-time Roadies)
  • Recurring training and learning sessions to support your professional growth
  • Regular mentoring with a Roadie of your own choosing - or several!
  • A diverse, equitable, and inclusive workplace
  • Offices in downtown Helsinki (with gym and pool) and Tampere
  • Pick the laptop and digital tools of your choosing
  • Extensive health care services, including dental and mental health
  • Insurance for travel and free-time
  • Lunch benefit
  • Mobile phone subscription
  • Weekly breakfasts and healthy daily refreshments
  • Flexible vouchers for sports, culture, commuting, and massage
  • Recurring Roadie-ideated events and activities
  • Childcare services when your child falls ill
  • Compensation for working on open source or social programs in your free time
  • Take a look at our Culture Code & Careers page to get to know us better.

Recruitment process

The deadline for applications is November 24th, 2024 (Sunday). After sending your application, you can expect to hear back from us by November 29th at latest, and you will be notified of the status of your application at each stage. The interview process consists of a short video phase during the last week of November and one interview round in early December. We look forward to hearing from you soon!

Timing

The Associate Program is a full-time extended summer job. Optimally you would start full-time or part-time already in spring, as most summer roadies have done in previous years. The start date and possible holidays during the summer will be discussed and set together with the selected candidates. After the summer, if expectations have been met from both sides, there's a possibility to continue part-time while you finish your studies (or full-time if you're graduating).
