Quincy Institute is hiring a

Social Media Manager

New York, United States
Full-Time
Remote
The Quincy Institute for Responsible Statecraft (QI) is looking for an experienced social media manager who’s resourceful, creative, and enterprising to take a leading role within our dynamic communications team. This is a full-time position preferably in a hybrid working environment, based out of our office in Washington, D.C., however we are also open to qualified remote candidates. The role includes a suite of benefits including 80% employer-covered medical, vision, and dental care, 12 paid holidays a year, generous PTO, unlimited sick leave, IRA and 401(k) options with employer match, and cell phone and commuter stipends.

The right person for this role will be eager to hit the ground running, bringing a vision for QI’s social media channels and a collaborative spirit to strategy development, as well as demonstrable skills growing multi-channel audiences on social media through thoughtfully framed content. While QI is focused on policy advocacy, we don’t need our social media manager to come to us as a policy expert; we just need someone who’s aligned with what we’re trying to accomplish as an organization, and has the desire to learn on the job. Crucially, the right fit will be someone who can deftly navigate stakeholder relationships, advocate for their own work, drive alignment across distinct groups within the organization, and help coach policy experts on the aims and outcomes of our social strategy.

Responsibilities

  • Directly manage all of QI’s social media accounts, including Facebook, X, Instagram, TikTok, LinkedIn, and YouTube
  • Craft strategic content for each social media channel, utilizing a wealth of assets from QI’s wider policy work, and collaborating with our creative and strategic partners to produce the content you need for each medium
  • Develop strategies for content and audience diversification, including pitching strategic uses of TikTok videos, reels, shorts, stories, and other popular and trending platforms and formats
  • Help drive stakeholder alignment with our social media strategy and specific content we’re developing, taking into account their feedback, and informing relevant groups of the impact of our tactical approaches
  • As needed, rapidly respond to current events and hot-button issues of the day, helping to run with a trending topic or major news story and maximize the reach we can achieve on social media from a nimble response
  • Manage QI’s growing communities across social media channels, ensuring that we’re responding to comments in a timely manner, engaging with key audiences, reposting relevant material, and following up on influencer engagement opportunities
  • (Ideally) take on a role as an on-camera digital spokesperson, working in collaboration with our video editor to craft compelling content for TikTok, IG reels, and YouTube shorts
  • Optimize content for each channel of distribution, employing best practices and leveraging deep knowledge of each platform
  • Manage targeted ad campaigns on social media and potentially Google Ads, and/or work with our advertising partner to help optimize and report out on these campaigns
  • As needed, bring design skills into the content creation process, either working with our in-house designer and design resources to bring your ideas to fruition, or taking the lead yourself in the content creation process

Preferred Skills

  • Strong written and verbal communication
  • Enterprising, creative mindset
  • Enjoys being a part of a small, high-functioning team within a broader organization
  • Adept at juggling multiple creative projects at once, and prioritizing on the fly as rapid response needs arise
  • Deep background in social media platform management and platform advertising, particularly Meta and YouTube
  • Design and video editing experience is a plus, preferably with Adobe Creative Suite, otherwise Canva, as well as CapCut
  • Open to navigating a “transpartisan” work environment, where a diverse mix of political views are represented across the organization
  • Experience utilizing social media for policy advocacy, and successfully managing social media campaigns for policy issues is a plus

To Apply

To be considered, please send a cover letter detailing the reasons for your interest in the position along with your resume. In a PS to your cover letter, offer up no more than one sentence describing a personal attribute, which you believe will make you a great colleague.
Please also include a couple of short writing/content samples or links to content you’ve created, as well as links to any social media accounts you’ve managed (optional, but recommended).
