Site Engineering Manager

Working pattern: Monday to Friday with flexibility required to support the 24hr facility

The Engineering Manager will play a key part in building and leading a world class Engineering team ensuring strategies are in place to support delivery of overall business and Engineering objectives. This role sits within the Engineering Operations team and reports to the Head of Engineering Operations and Standards.

Core Responsibilities

  • To manage overall site services and assets across a 24hr facility. 

  • Build and manage an R&M budget for maintenance and utilities.

  • To lead a ‘fit for purpose’ shift based Engineering team with a bias for action to provide a business focused service. This will cover legal compliance, best practice & continuous improvement.

  • Own the Engineering teams objectives and key results (OKRs).

  • To manage CMMS & associated stores, ensuring availability of spares and appropriate maintenance is scheduled and completed, maintaining maximum availability for the site.

  • To support projects as required to contribute to centrally driven Engineering and business initiatives.

  • Be responsible for controlling contractor works and activities.

  • To undertake the role as Electrical duty holder, and positively support the site safety agenda.

  • Build effective relationships with internal stakeholders plus 3rd Party (contracted) site maintenance team. 

  • Review assets performance to understand issues and corrective actions taken or actions to be planned into plant down time, ensuring sufficient time and resources are allocated. 

  • To develop the Engineering team including succession planning, regular reviews including by the 121 & SWOT. Build development plans for each team member and conduct appraisals.

  • Ensure effective handovers (verbal and written) between Engineering shift teams and operations to ensure clarity of information, priorities, ownership and timings. .

  • Review Project, CI & PPM activities and processes with the Projects Manager to ensure they remain fit for purpose.

Who you are

  • Strong understanding of Mechanical and Electrical systems. Including packaging and material handling equipment (conveyance), LV distribution systems & refrigeration systems. 
  • Competent in site services failure mitigation & disaster recovery. Putting these in place and implementing them in time of need.
  • Working knowledge and understanding PTW, RAMS, LOTO.
  • Working knowledge of H&S legislation e.g. UKCA, PUWER, LOLER PSSR.
  • Understanding of food hygiene standards (BRC).
  • Working knowledge of continuous improvement (CI) and lean manufacturing processes incl RCA.
  • Currently operating at a senior level in an Engineering team with experience of people management.
  • Proven leader and coach, able to set and achieve performance targets but who is also passionate about the culture within their own team and the wider business .
  • Resilient, flexible, and adaptable to embracing managing change in a high pace environment 
  • Apprenticeship/College trained engineer, with minimum ONC/HNC qualification in an engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrates the competencies required to accept Duty Holder Responsibilities.
  • A safety qualification would be advantageous; IOSH,NEBOSH

 

Extra skills we’d love

  • Competent user of MS Office and Google Docs.
  • Experience of CMMS systems is highly desirable.
  • Membership within a relevant professional engineering body.
  • An understanding of FMCG and Food manufacturing
  • Experience in Automation (Box erectors, local logic control of simple air systems, conveying equipment, PLC control principals, batch/process line flow concepts)
  • Experience in warehouse automation & pick by light systems.
