Equal Education Partners delivers a mentoring programme to several hundred year 12-13 learners in Wales on behalf of the Seren Academy programme – a Welsh Government initiative and Wales' flagship higher education access initiative for talented learners to support them with their university applications.

As a mentor on the Seren University Admissions Mentoring Programme you will work with mentees you are matched with to support them with their university applications. Mentors will plan and deliver up to three structured one-to-one and potentially small group mentoring sessions to mentees. Mentors may also be asked to conduct group subject/university sessions depending on uptake in subject and/or university choices. Mentors may work with several mentees, depending on demand and capacity.

By being matched with mentees with similar aspirations to those the mentors have achieved (i.e. subjects studied and university destinations), mentors will share experiences, resources and top tips for their studied subjects and university destinations. Depending on subject specialism, the opportunity involves mentoring from April to December 2025. Mentors will receive online training and ongoing support throughout the course of the programme. Mentoring sessions will be held online using a virtual platform.

Key Responsibilities

  • Preparing and delivering group sessions (if applicable) and up to three appropriate, interesting and engaging mentoring sessions between April - December 2025 to support at least five mentees with their university applications;
  • Providing guidance and support on topics relating to the university admissions process (e.g. personal statements, university admissions tests and university admission interviews);
  • Sharing appropriate and useful resources with mentees to support with their university applications;
  • Taking a proactive approach to supporting mentees (e.g. scheduling sessions);
  • Working collaboratively with the project delivery team; and
  • Other reasonable relevant responsibilities as required.

Personal Specification

  • Studying for or recently graduated from a degree / postgraduate degree (see below for further detail)
  • Knowledge and experience of the application process for university;
  • Communication skills;
  • ICT skills;
  • Ability to work independently; and
  • Ability to research and plan

Requirements

Studying for or recently graduated from a degree / postgraduate degree in one of the following categories: Oxford, Cambridge, Medicine, Veterinary Science, Dentistry, Leading Universities (for Law, Economics, Creative Arts, Music and other subject areas etc) International Universities (US, Europe and Asia)

Upon successful appointment, candidates go through an internal vetting and compliance process to comply with safeguarding procedures.
