The Newsweek Multimedia team is looking for an experienced and enthusiastic Senior Video Producer to lead and manage video news coverage, including the weekends. The Senior Video Producer, Weekend will be responsible for the full production cycle – from conception to publish – of bespoke images, short-form videos and graphics for a variety of digital content, including breaking news stories, original features, interviews and social media platforms, ensuring that the content is visually engaging and aligns with our editorial vision and brand in the newsroom every day. This role requires a proactive, self-starter attitude with strong understanding of video production for multiple platforms to engage with our audiences. Having sound editorial judgement is a must 

The role requires an effective storyteller and communicator. You will work across the newsroom with various editors and journalists without much supervision, helping journalists to source, verify and illustrate their stories while keeping a record of image and video permissions, editing digital news videos and posting them to our social media platforms. Using AI and non-AI tools is essential for keeping up with demands of news, speed and quality.  

This is a Thursday-Monday role with the flexibility of working different shifts as needed to cover the news cycle.  

Key Responsibilities: 

  • Research, produce and edit engaging videos at a quick speed from concept to publish that enhance news coverage and topics on our website, social media and other platforms to help maximize storytelling impact and reach audiences 
  • Create several bespoke images and graphics per day that illustrate stories and concepts   
  • Work independently and show a self-starter attitude, taking initiative to craft and execute coverage plans without constant supervision. 
  • Collaborate and coordinate with breaking news and live news teams regularly to produce compelling video for real-time updates; handle requests 
  • React to breaking news stories as and when they happen 
  • Leverage AI to generate, produce and enhance quality, productivity, and efficiency of visuals. Tools Canva, Firefly, Copilot, ChatGPT, Flourish, Google Earth Studio and more 
  • Optimize for and post video content on social media platforms, including YouTube, TikTok, Instagram and LinkedIn  
  • Provide Zoom or in-person original production support, including coordinating, interviewing, filming, transcribing and editing 
  • Pitch and develop video ideas for special projects that translate into engaging visual features  
  • Manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlines 
  • Ensure all content meets Newsweek’s editorial and brand standards 
  • Work a schedule from Thursday to Monday (EST), accommodating the dynamic needs of news production. 
  • Check facts and sources and ensure content is of the highest possible standard and is fair and accurate; This includes fact-checking names, titles, and numbers, and confirming the content management system node is filled out correctly 
  • Guide and support video producers and editors when needed (freelance or on staff), assigning, reviewing and providing feedback  
  • Perform any other reasonable duties as necessary to meet the needs of the business. 

Requirements:

  • 3-5 years of experience producing digital news videos for various platforms  
  • Strong storytelling skills and a keen eye for visual design, understanding the impact of engaging visual narratives that fit the brand  
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Cloud, including Premiere and After Effects  
  • Experience using Canva and/or Photoshop 
  • Knowledge of current events and experience covering U.S./internation news and trends 
  • Self-starter attitude with a proactive approach to identifying and pursuing stories. 
  • A strong communicator, both visually and verbally, and eager to collaborate across a global team of engaged journalists, editors, and multimedia producers 
  • Can work independently and in a team environment; capable of working to tight deadlines under pressure in high-volume  
  • Video and photo research experience in an editorial environment and using key stock databases (wire services, UGC, archival footage, original footage. etc.) 
  • Basic understanding of best practices and formats for social videos 
  • Able to multitask and manage several projects at once through to completion 
  • Ability to manage and guide others; be resourceful and a problem solver 
  • Knowledge and comfortable setting up a Zoom interview, operating camera, audio and other equipment on set 
  • Eager to learn and receptive to feedback 
  • Adaptable and flexible; Able to embrace change, manage shifting priorities and keep calm in stressful situations  
  • Must be able to work flexible hours 
  • An interest in learning and using AI technologies for different creative tasks 

Desirable: 

  • Experience in graphic design, motion graphics and/or animation, Illustrator 
  • Familiarity with using social media, Google Trends and other news discovery tools 
  • Strong understanding of social media platforms and best practices for video content 
  • Experience with UGC verification and reaching out for permissions 
  • Knowledge of video and photo copyright 
  • Knowledge and experience with videography and live event production  
  • Experience sourcing, commissioning, or creating original photography  

 

Salary range: $65,000 - $75,000
