Led by Digital Catapult and funded by Belfast Region City Deal and Innovate UK, the UK Digital Twin Centre will actively enable industry and innovators to safely embrace, explore and realise the dynamic power of digital twins. Operating from the heart of Northern Ireland, the Centre will accelerate the adoption of digital twins to drive global competitive advantage for UK businesses. By creating the conditions for digital twins to be better understood, more easily developed and more meaningfully applied, the Centre will give businesses real-time capabilities to make smarter decisions and achieve better outcomes, enabling the potential of digital twins to be realised, not theorised. Through partnerships with industry pioneers, the Centre will demonstrate how digital twins can responsibly revolutionise critical industries in maritime, aerospace and defence, and advance the products, services, and systems of the future.
The Senior Technologist in Digital Twin Intelligence capabilities is a pivotal role with a focus on providing an environment for the development and deployment of industrial digital twin solutions. Leading the services for data integration, basic and advanced analytics, AI, orchestration and other digital twin process capabilities. The role is instrumental in developing and delivering a comprehensive range of Intelligence capabilities. Spearheading the integration of Edge AI and Intelligence for real-time decision-making, implementing Command and Control systems for autonomous operations, and orchestrating complex digital twin processes. Driving advancements in Alerts and Notifications, ensuring timely responses to system triggers, and creating sophisticated Reporting and Data Analysis tools to derive actionable insights. With a strong focus on Prediction and Machine Learning, the role aims to refine the predictive capabilities of digital twins, leveraging Artificial Intelligence and Federated Learning to enhance data privacy and model performance.
WHAT YOU’LL DO (Duties)
The role encompasses developing realistic Simulations and Mathematical Analytics for accurate system modelling, crafting Prescriptive Recommendations for informed decision-making, establishing robust Business Rules, integrating Distributed ledgers and Smart Contracts for secure transactions, and mastering Composition to enable flexible and scalable digital twin solutions.
Leading and collaborating closely with a multidisciplinary team, the senior technologist plays a strategic role in not only advancing the technological offerings of the centre but also guaranteeing operational excellence. The aim is to deliver solutions that exemplify the full potential of digital twin technology, thereby fostering widespread adoption and seamless integration.
Requirements
WHAT WE’RE LOOKING FOR (Experience)
Digital Twin Acumen: Deep understanding or interest in the nuances of Digital Twin Data Services, IoT, and their integration in cyber-physical systems.
Educational Background: Preferably holding a master’s or PhD degree in computer science, IoT, Data Engineering or a related field. Equivalent professional experience can be considered.
Numerical analysis: Experience in simulation numerical analysis techniques, evaluating and enhancing computational cyber models to reflect the physical world accurately. This includes creating and fine-tuning mathematical representations, applying advanced programming for model implementation, and critically analysing model performance. Additionally, communicating model limitations and ensuring their correct application is essential.
Scientific modelling: Experience analysing diverse data types and sources through data science methods. Integrating and preparing data, applying advanced analytics, and developing predictive models to drive insightful decision-making. Expertise in data science techniques and tools, the ability to evaluate and improve data solutions, and proficiency in specialised programming for model development and refinement.
Data science: Experience assessing machine learning models for performance and bias, ensuring robustness, and managing model lifecycle from design to deployment. This includes model evaluation, issue resolution, considering ethical implications, and maintaining outcome traceability. The role requires a deep understanding of various machine-learning techniques and best practices in developing, evaluating, and monitoring these systems.
Machine learning: Expertise in machine learning and AI involves leveraging numerical analysis to develop, analyse, and implement algorithms, addressing complex mathematical problems. This skill requires initiating and refining numerical algorithms, ensuring they effectively solve real-world challenges and enhance the intelligence capabilities of digital twin systems.
High-performance computing: Experience developing and applying advanced computing techniques for complex problem-solving across various domains. The role requires skills in creating solutions that leverage HPC and understanding the intricacies of optimising the performance and scalability of algorithms within these high-powered computing environments
Systems design: Intelligent Cyber-physical systems design involves conceptualising, creating, and validating complex systems designs. This includes selecting system components, adhering to standards, modelling system behaviours, and producing detailed specifications to meet both functional and non-functional requirements, all while ensuring compliance with regulatory and security standards.
Programming/software development: Experience development encompassing creation, refining, and maintaining solutions and capabilities. Includes adherence to development and security standards, designing software components, applying test-driven development, and ensuring robust, maintainable code through peer reviews and documentation.
