THE POSITION

FanDuel looking for an experienced tax professional to join the Tax Department in a hybrid role that will be based out of our New York City office.  In this newly created role, the Senior Tax Associate will assist the FanDuel Group Tax Team’s Tax Operations division with all tax-related matters for the entire FanDuel Group and TSG US Group.  

You will play a key role within various regulatory and informational reporting tax compliance processes. Additionally you will have the opportunity to help plan tax opportunities across all operational areas of tax and create, document, and improve internal processes and controls.  This role will also be responsible for building and refining complex tax workpapers and models with emphasis on creating and expanding the use of automation (e.g., Alteryx, Tableau, RPA, etc.) and AI throughout the Tax Operations function.  The Senior Tax Associate will work closely with various business functions throughout the company.

THE GAME PLAN

  • Prepare and maintain key elements of the wagering, gaming, and daily fantasy sports tax compliance, reporting, and documentation processes 
  • Build/refine multifaceted tax workpapers and models
  • Assist with the informational reporting and withholding processes (i.e., Form 1099, 1042, and W-2G reporting) with a focus on improving the customer experience
  • Co-own a variety of ancillary tax processes (e.g., month end close procedures, sales and gross receipts tax filings, etc.)
  • Assist the Tax Team with the research and position memo drafting processes in the gaming tax and informational reporting and withholding areas 
  • Identify opportunities to create and expand the use of automation and AI throughout the Tax function
  • Play a key role in expanding Tax Operation’s data and reporting integrations with FanDuel’s product and commercial teams
  • Assist with tax notice resolution and tax controversy matters across all tax types 
  • Liaise with international, federal, state, and local tax and regulatory authorities
  • Collaborate, identify, and implement potential process and control improvements across the entire Tax function
  • Contribute on a wide variety of tax planning projects pertaining to all FanDuel products and business functions
  • Assist with the VP of Tax’s strategy workstreams that sit outside the Tax function

THE STATS
What we're looking for in our next teammate

Basic Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics, Legal, or similar business background
  • 2+ years of professional US corporate tax experience

Preferred Qualifications and Industry Experience:

  • Licensed Qualifications:
  • CPA or other similarly licensed designation(s)
  • Experience in the following industries:
  • Technology, gaming, legal, sports, and/or media
  • Highly regulated environments (e.g., banking, telecom, pharma, etc.)

Preferred Knowledge/Skills:

  • Demonstrates intimate knowledge and/or a proven record of success in the following areas:
  • Tax compliance and planning 
  • Accounting and tax fundamentals
  • Tax controversy and audit defense
  • Tax research and writing
  • Demonstrates abilities and/or a proven record of success, as both an individual contributor and team member, in the following areas:
  • Self-starter with the ability to work independently in a fast-paced environment
  • Cross-departmental ways of working and collaboration in pursuit of common company goals
  • Strong Excel skills with a desire to continually maintain and improve those skills
  • Data driven with the ability to bring strong analytical rigor to decision-making with a focus on getting to the right answer
  • Open to learning about new areas of tax and financial reporting (via internal trainings and continuing professional education courses)   
  • Creating and analyzing complex computation and reporting solutions, with the ability to clearly articulate findings to stakeholders in visual, verbal and written formats
  • Working with large, complex data sets to build models and leverage data visualization tools to provide insights to stakeholder groups
  • Utilizing data languages and data analytic tools to reduce hours and optimize processes
  • Excellent organizational skills and time/project management skills
  • Must aspire to continually improve verbal and written communication skills

The applicable salary range for this position is $92,000 - $138,000, which is dependent on a variety of factors including relevant experience, location, business needs and market demand. This role may offer the following benefits: medical, vision, and dental insurance; life insurance; disability insurance; a 401(k) matching program; among other employee benefits. This role may also be eligible for short-term or long-term incentive compensation, including, but not limited to, cash bonuses and stock program participation. This role includes paid personal time off and 14 paid company holidays. FanDuel offers paid sick time in accordance with all applicable state and federal laws.
