We are looking for a Senior Tax Analyst to report directly to the Group Tax Manager in our growing listed global tech business.

Alongside the Head of Tax, the Group Tax Manager is focused towards building out the Trainline in-house tax function, with a view to managing the transition from a fully outsourced function to a value-added internal advisory and compliance function. The Head of Tax began that journey when she joined Trainline over 5 years ago, and now with a recently recruited Group Tax Manager, we are looking for an enthusiastic and ambitious tax analyst to join the team and help build on this vision and continue on the journey. 

In our fast-moving business, no day is the same, but your role will :

  • Provide you with exposure across the business where you will be working with various teams to increase the visibility and profile of the tax department.
  • Cover a wide range of all taxes, where you will take ownership of the Corporation Tax, VAT, Employment taxes and Transfer Pricing.
  • Process improvement – in our fast-paced world things change quickly and we need to adapt our processes to make sure they adapt too. We want you to bring new ideas and insight into the best practices to adopt.
  • Keeping up to date with the ever-evolving tax legislation and as we grow acting proactively to ensure Trainline group are ready to meet the requirements of the legislation.

As Senior Tax Analyst, you will…

  • Assist with the monthly UK VAT return preparation for the UK, and managing the non-UK submissions with external advisors, reconciling back to the monthly management accounts.
  • Work with the Group Tax Manager and Head of Tax on general ad-hoc tax matters that arise within the business, this will cover employment taxes, VAT and corporation tax, including liaising with internal stakeholders
  • Assist with the implementation of automation to adopt efficient process improvements and compliance obligations around Making Tax Digital and establishing efficient process improvements for the UK and International Markets. You will work with external advisors on this implementation
  • Assist with the UK corporation tax compliance process, including the collection of data for our compliance service provider, preparation of UK tax disclosures, review and submission of UK tax returns
  • Manage the outsourced corporate tax compliance activities for non-UK jurisdictions
  • Assist with forecasting, particularly in relation to the group effective tax rate and tax payments
  • Handle the tax governance platform to ensure that all group tax deadlines are identified, appropriate timelines for workflows are included and tasks are assigned to the correct person
  • Input on the tax governance for the group including maintaining the CCO risk register and SAO annual process including review of our tax accounting controls and the maintenance of process notes
  • Display impressive organisational skills with strong attention to detail
  • Work with the wider finance team to maintain appropriate tax accruals and ensure that journals and tax postings are made using Microsoft D365
  • Complete the tracking of the tax budget for external advisors
  • Experienced in tax (2- 3 years), either in industry or practice, with a strong foundation in VAT
  • Keen to expand their knowledge and skills across all tax heads
  • Ideally qualified or part-qualified accounting/tax professional (ACA, ACCA, CTA etc.) and have a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance
  • Microsoft suite proficient with very good/excellent analytical skills
  • A strong communicator and have interpersonal skills with a customer service focus
  • A proactive person with a hands-on mentality and the ability to act and operate independently and collaborate with colleagues to accomplish objectives
  • A champion of process development and continuous improvement
  • Able to approach their work with a ‘can do’ attitude, willing to take on new and unfamiliar tasks
  • Detail-orientated with the ability to communicate any findings from their work
  • A team player who can collaborate with the tax and finance function, but also with other areas of the business
  • Confident in their ability to overcome challenges and approach work with a positive attitude
  • Familiar with working in a fast-paced environment and open to new challenges
