Our customers have named our EQ Bank digital platform (eqbank.ca) one of the top banks in Canada on the Forbes World's Best Banks list since 2021.    The Work As part of a growing and dynamic Commercial Syndicated Lending team, the Senior Syndication Analyst will be responsible for supporting the Syndicated Lending team in the day-to-day management and oversight of the syndication portfolio by working with investors in a number of investor-related tasks, including but not limited to: underwriting, deal placement, problem file resolution, annual reviews and amendments, and other ad-hoc matters, while providing exceptional customer service to all investors. The incumbent is accountable for identifying and resolving complex issues by liaising with both internal and external stakeholders. The incumbent is a subject matter expert on syndications, but shall demonstrate expertise in credit, pricing and accounting, risk management, legal, funding, payments, reporting, client disclosure, collections, and other servicing-related tasks.    In this role, the Senior Syndication Analyst must be knowledgeable about Equitable Bank’s mortgage products and processes while having a good understanding of the underwriting, risk and compliance guidelines to ensure all files meet industry and company regulatory requirements.    Syndication Support (50%)
  • Providing timely response to investor inquiries on all commercial loan syndications. 
  • Providing product-specific advice regarding our commercial syndication product. 
  • Ensuring partner underwriting and approvals are in line with the needs of the Bank.
  • Reviewing and consulting with investors on all loan sale documentation. 
  • Regularly communicating with investors on issues, including communicating and explaining rationale for internal credit decisions and recommendations.
  • Educating investors on the Bank’s policies and procedures. 
  • Following up with the investors after business is completed to provide added value. 
  • Leading diverse and complex loan syndication opportunities to give investors the ability to participate in large lending relationships. 
  • Internal Liaison (40%)
  • Committing to regular engagement and coordination with all internal stakeholders to ensure the delivery of high-quality product and service to investors. 
  • Working closely with the Origination group to ensure that there is suitable appetite for loan sales within our partner network. 
  • Actively managing the syndication portfolio while working with the CFG Portfolio team to ensure account management is coordinated with investors (ad-hoc requests and post-funding amendments, annual reviews, renewals, etc.).
  • Working closely with internal teams to facilitate the onboarding of investors and the funding and maintenance of syndicated commercial assets. 
  • Workflow (5%)
  • On a daily basis, the incumbent is responsible for time management of their workflow along with the team in order to meet prescribed deadlines.
  • Reporting (5%)
  • The incumbent will be responsible for the preparation and updating of reporting for the Syndicated Lending team.
  • Let's Talk About You!
  • Post-secondary education (diploma/degree) preferably in business or finance, is required. Specialization in Real Estate (e.g., Urban Land Economics, Real Property Valuation/Assessment) a definite asset. 
  • 5 years of commercial lending experience and demonstrated commercial lending underwriting proficiency. 
  • Sound technical knowledge of loan syndication principles, planning and tactics. 
  • Experience with construction lending guidelines and requirements. 
  • Sound technical knowledge of commercial real estate underwriting, financial statement analysis and factors affective the commercial mortgage market.
  • Sound technical knowledge of commercial loan servicing, problem file management, legal agreement negotiation and corporate policy. 
  • Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. 
  • Strong negotiation skills.
  • Working knowledge of AML/ATF regulations and Corporate/Legal documentation (both direct and partner originated transactions) for commercial real estate in multiple jurisdictions across Canada. 
  • Excellent working knowledge of MS Office (primarily Word, Excel and PowerPoint). 
  • Strong organization and time management skills with the ability to handle multiple competing priorities. 
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently to achieve goals. 
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills with the ability to respond in a clear, concise and professional manner. 
  • Bilingualism is an asset.
