Senior Surfacing Artist (Organic)

As a Surfacing Artist, you will play a crucial role in the production of high-quality assets by applying textures and materials to 3D models. Your work will bring depth, realism, and visual appeal to our organic environments. You will collaborate closely with teams from different departments to ensure our projects meet our artistic vision and quality standards. 

This role will be focused on Surfacing for environments

What you’ll be doing: 

  • Create textures and materials that integrate into look development for CG assets   
  • Work closely with grooming artists to create fur, hair, or cloth shaders and look    
  • Create templates and material networks for CG assets   
  • Create templates in Katana to pass to other artist and optimize the workflow  
  • Participate with team members to determine design and implement technical solutions    
  • Collaborate well with other departments, including modeling, groom, rigging, and lighting to ensure seamless integration of assets into the pipeline   
  • Consistently meet assigned milestones and deadlines    
  • Demonstrate clear and respectful communication to your coordinator, lead and team   
  • Strive to grow and develop your skills by challenging yourself 

 

What you’ll bring: 

Experience 

  • You have 4+ years experience as a Surfacing Artist on a fully animated or hybrid feature film  

Demo reel requirements 

  • You have a portfolio that demonstrates a high level of detail and surfacing craftsmanship of a diverse range of characters and environments, stylized preferred  
  • You have a strong eye for light, shade, color, and detail in creating materials and textures   
  • Your work demonstrates an understanding of industry-standard workflows, UV layouts, and optimization   
  • You are able to create textures from reference  
  • Your experience with fur and hair shading is a plus  

Software  

  • Your technical skills demonstrate proficiency in Mari, Substance Painter, Zbrush, Katana and other relevant 3D tools   
  • You have experience modifying shading networks and defining templates for other artists    
  • Your experience with shader programming in OSL, creating Katana macros or supertools and working with Nuke and render passes is a plus  

Soft skills 

  • You have strong communication and collaborative skills     
  • You are a problem solver and adaptable  
  • You have solid time management skills   

  

Salary Range: $1600 - $2100 CAD Weekly 

 

The Salary Range is the span between the minimum and maximum base salary for a position. The midpoint of the range is approximately halfway between the minimum and the maximum and represents an employee that possesses full job knowledge, qualifications and experience for the position. In the normal course, employees will be hired, transferred or promoted between the minimum and midpoint of the salary range for a job.
