Reporting to the Manager, Environmental Performance, the Senior Supervisor, Operations - Sullivan is responsible for safe, cost-effective, and environmentally conscious day-to-day care and maintenance activities of the surface and underground facilities of the reclaimed Sullivan Mine in Kimberley, BC.
The Senior Supervisor, Operations - Sullivan is responsible for coordinating safe and efficient maintenance activities at the site. This includes the maintenance of the mine-impacted water seepage collection system, maintenance and operation of the water treatment plant, maintenance of the underground workings, development and implementation of a preventative maintenance program, and capital upgrades. The successful candidate will collaborate with internal professionals to plan and implement health and safety, environmental, geotechnical and maintenance programs. This includes supporting the development of scopes of work and contracts, detailing observations and deficiencies, and ensuring appropriate actions are taken to address deficiencies.
This motivated individual will lead and nurture a safe and effective workforce of employees and contractors with diverse abilities necessary to operate and maintain both the surface and underground facilities while ensuring all workers go home safe and healthy every day.
This individual is accountable for encouraging positive relationships with the local community, including but not limited to the City of Kimberley, and First Nations.
Responsibilities
- Be a courageous safety leader, adhere to and sponsor safety and environmental rules and procedures
- Plan, budget and coordinate all site activities including the collection and treatment of contaminated surface and groundwater; management of the tailings storage facility and associated works; site restoration projects; and site security to control public access
- Provide detailed and outcomes-based employee management, including supervision of external consultants, contractor teams, and a team of employees
- Lead the planning and execution of site stewardship projects, including scoping, schedule, tracking risks and opportunities, cost and resourcing requirements, and site/field communications
- Prepare and maintain site documentation, including schedules, budgets and forecasts, and risk registers. Ensure accurate controls, management and oversight of expenditures
- Coordinate the preparation, evaluation, and award of contracts, including preparation of scopes of work, requests for proposals, schedules, cost estimates and qualified bidder lists
- Lead all aspects of the design and implementation of a maintenance strategy for site-based systems and equipment
- Lead continuous improvement efforts for Sullivan facility performance, focusing on reducing risk and cost
- Ensure compliance with applicable legislation, permits and other regulatory requirements. Act as the designated Mine Manager under the BC Health, Reclamation and Safety Code
- Provide routine reporting on site operations and maintenance activities
- Participate in public engagement events (e.g., open houses, information sessions, meetings) that relate to site operations
Qualifications
- Minimum of 12 years of mine operational/maintenance management experience at a base metals mine with significant water management and ARD collection/treatment challenges
- Post-secondary degree in engineering, sciences, maintenance, or a related field
- Team leader with experience forming, inspiring, and mentoring a team of contractors, employees, and consultants from diverse fields and backgrounds
- Strong interpersonal, management, and influencing skills with outstanding written and verbal communications
- Organized in the face of complexity and adaptable to changing priorities
- Proficient analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making abilities and an ability to thrive in a multifaceted environment
- Professional accreditation, or eligibility for registration, would be an asset
- BC Mine Supervisor Certificate is an asset
