Senior Staff, User Experience Engineer - AR/VR

Lab Summary: 

At the XR UX Lab, we are envisioning the future of AR/VR experiences in the context of immersive and intelligent environments. We are a mix of interdisciplinary individuals with expertise in advanced rapid prototyping and AI-first XR user experience design. The XR UX Lab will work closely with the HQ mobile division’s UX team and external partners to investigate emerging AR/VR UX technologies and deliver design artifacts that determine the direction of the upcoming XR products at Samsung Electronics.

Position Summary:

We are looking for a Senior Staff, User Experience Engineer who is passionate about working with world-class professionals in a highly creative and collaborative setting.

As a Senior Staff, User Experience Engineer, you will set the bar for XR interactions for the broader UX team by making what people envision into a reality and bringing magic to the world. Working with interaction designer, technical art director and other leads you will play a key role in helping the team validate UX hypothesis by developing time machines and advanced rapid prototypes. This position is responsible for implementing cutting edge experiences in AR/VR settings covering areas including optics, haptics, computer vision, spatial audio, XR input and UX.

Position Responsibilities:

  • Explore AI-first XR experience design by implementing series of rapid prototypes in order to help deliver a cohesive UX across company’s future XR products
  • Help identify risks/opportunities coming from business and provide the best interaction design solution/technology based on professional experience and knowledge
  • Help Samsung to define a long-term strategy transforming the company into a leader in providing AI-first XR experiences through a family of AR/VR hardware products
  • Quickly provide insights in XR problems working with other design leads
  • Help identify new UX mental model around AI-first XR experiences through experiential prototype implementations
  • Help develop product strategy through live demos and brainstorming with exec level leads
  • Clearly articulate design directions to internal and external partners
  • Secure intellectual properties in the emerging technologies in AR/VR field
  • Together with internal and external teams, look for opportunities to revolutionize Samsung products with the new XR UX technology
  • Consult product teams on the best use of the XR input technology and novel UX mental models in immersive computing
  • Help transfer of selected technical investigation results to Samsung’s XR products
  • Organize demo sessions for stakeholders

 Required Skills:

  • MS degree in HCI or related field or related areas or related field, or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
  • 8+ years of work experience in developing AR/VR prototypes or interactive installations
  • Expertise in relevant game engines
  • Cross disciplinary background in 3D, coding and UX Design
  • Ability to collaborate with many international teams
  • Portfolio including visual work and interactive demos
  • Experience coding in Unity with C# or C++
  • Experience with developing prototypes in fast paced environment
  • Interpersonal skills to collaborate with team members with multicultural and cross disciplinary backgrounds in design, creative technology, 3D technical art and HCI research

The base pay range for roles at this level is listed below, but may be higher or lower in other states due to geographic differentials in the labor market. Within the base pay range, individual rates depend on a number of factors—including the role’s function and location as well as the individual’s knowledge, skills, experience, education and training. This is part of our comprehensive compensation package with annual bonus eligibility and generous benefits to help you live life well.

$188,400$282,450 USD
