Synthesia is hiring a

Senior/Staff Machine Learning Engineer - Large Language Models (LLMs)

Zürich, Switzerland

Synthesia is the world's first AI video generation platform. It's a video production studio in a browser; no cameras, no film crews. You simply choose an avatar, enter your script, and your video is ready in minutes. We believe the future of media is synthetic, and we are on a mission to turn cameras into code and make everyone a creator. Check out our brand video to get a deeper insight into what we're working on here at Synthesia.

The Assisted Creation team is central to that mission. It further simplifies video creation by building an AI-based co-pilot for Synthesia. Our goal is to provide users, regardless of their prior video editing experience, with intuitive tools that ensure their success on our platform. To get started, users only need to supply an initial idea, which we turn into a video draft in seconds.

Our solution uses a modern machine-learning stack based on LLMs, LVMs, embeddings, and more. We’re at the cutting edge of the generative AI application layer, tackling unsolved problems requiring machine learning, data, infrastructure, and product integration to enable a first-of-its-kind product.

What you'll do at Synthesia:

  • You will work end-to-end, contributing to Assisted Creation’s machine-learning efforts.
  • You will have sole ownership of projects that span months, requiring you to be able to break a problem down into small steps that can be delivered and validated iteratively.
  • You will work directly with the product manager responsible for your project, meaning that you will be expected to ideate and focus on the commercial problem you're solving. You will have the opportunity to shape the direction of the product.
  • You will evaluate your work, leveraging our data pipeline and frameworks that we have established to understand the impact your features have on our commercial objectives and pivoting where necessary.
  • You will consider the team's long-term direction and ensure we are developing the engineering capabilities to stay ahead of the challenges we will likely encounter in 6-12 months

What we're looking for:

  • You have prior experience training and deploying LLMs, ideally with open-source models.
  • You have 5+ years of experience working in software development.
  • You have extensive experience building performant, consumer-facing applications.
  • You have experience that ranges from early-stage start-ups to well-established organizations.
  • A good level of spoken and written English is required.

At Synthesia, we expect everyone to…

  • Be an owner.
  • Focus on outcomes over inputs and plans.
  • Make the journey fun.
  • Default to simple.
