The team
The Hirer Selection subdomain builds product and solutions for internal and external customers with a focus on improving the hirer experience. Our three teams are comprised of multi-functional, multi-disciplinary squads that work within an APAC matrix organisational structure. The Selection subdomain own and operate the services that allow hirers to discover and target candidates with specific experience, qualifications or credentials; review essential information to assess applicant fit, and identify the best candidates for a role quickly, easily, and consistently.
About the role
A Senior Staff Engineer is a technical specialist role and senior member within our SEEK Group Engineering teams. You will be the sub-domain expert, whose primary focus is to partner closely with Engineering Managers, Heads of Engineering, Architecture, and Heads of Product to drive the alignment of sub-domain strategy to SEEK’s overall technical strategy.
Day-to-day, you will work collaboratively with your team management peers (Engineering Managers), providing technical guidance and specialist knowledge of codebases/systems/tools/platforms across multiple teams in which you work and support the resolution of technical issues and decisions as the need arises.
A Senior Staff Engineer advocates for, and empowers, technical best practices which support the delivery of software or technology specialisations. You will be accountable for advocating clean, scalable, testable code, ensuring high development practices and standards across your sub-domain. Line Management is an optional component of this role.
Responsibilities
Build
- Ensure the services /systems / platforms are fit for purpose, well architected and follow current SEEK development practices
- Help guide Staff Engineers to drive platform health in their teams by ensuring that our systems are aligned to SEEK’s technical metrics
- Deep dive on technical issues within your peer managers' teams as the need arises
- Uplift and embed technical standard processes across Engineering teams within your sub-domain
- Co-design and operate highly scalable and performant software in alignment with existing frameworks and SEEK’s technology strategy
Execute
- Strengthen engineering team and technology capability.
- Partner with team members including Architecture, Security, and other technical teams.
- Provide technical mentorship and break through blockers in technical matters and decisions
- Employ in-depth technical understanding of the codebase/systems/tools/platforms in the sub-domain in which you are accountable
- Uplift and align security practices across multiple teams. Collaborates with Security to ensure alignment of standard process across their Sub-Domain.
- Advocate writing clean, well-tested, readable software, using secure coding practices,
Support
- Grow Staff Engineer leadership capabilities through coaching, mentor and example behaviour
- Strengthen the capabilities of your sub-domain by proactively identifying and nurturing engineering talents
- Act as a SEEK engineering ambassador and help attract talent
Strengthen
- Key contributor to the engineering community at SEEK (e.g.: Open-source projects, Mentoring, Guilds)
- Develop a profile within the external engineering community (e.g.: Conference coordination, meet-up management)
- Proactively seek out learning opportunities for self and others through inviting and providing regular feedback
Essential Skills and Experience
- Experience with the design, development, support, and maintenance of cloud first applications and APIs
- Experience applying and improving (CI/CD) practices
- Demonstrated experience consistently writing well-tested, readable software, using secure coding practices, current patterns, and tooling
- Experience building and instrumenting logging and monitoring/alerting tools that will support operational health
- Ownership and implementation of a technical roadmap for a team, which communicates and guides the evolution of services/systems/platforms
- Ability to influence multi-functional partners, focusing on outcomes which best serve the overall strategy
- Ability to effectively partner and negotiate technical trade-offs with senior technical partners
- Experience advocating lean thinking and applying appropriate Agile frameworks to technical delivery
- Proactively shares knowledge and skills to help other team members grow through coaching and mentoring
