The Decisions Alliance

The Decisions Alliance is responsible for the company's Marketing Tech Stack, Customer Data, Experimentation, and MLOps platforms. It enables a rapid feedback loop to understand our customers, using AI/ML capabilities to find the best way to communicate with them. We’re constantly looking for ways to improve how we can help teams close their feedback loops and adjust their iteration times.

The role

The AdTech tribe oversees two critical platforms utilized by teams across HelloFresh: the Experimentation and Communications platforms. The Experimentation platform empowers teams to conduct thousands of experiments annually, fostering a culture of data-driven decision-making. Meanwhile, the Communications platform serves marketing and product teams, facilitating outreach to our (potential) customers through their preferred channels. Both domains are profoundly cross-functional, encompassing Mobile, Frontend, Data, and Backend disciplines, and rely extensively on data while leveraging event-driven microservice architectures.

As a Senior Staff Engineer, you will collaborate closely with Engineering teams and Staff Engineers across both domains, providing support in their technical decision-making processes. Your responsibilities will include spearheading initiatives that traverse multiple teams and domains, such as those focused on Data Modernization and Operational Excellence. Drawing upon your comprehensive understanding of the domain, you will assume ownership of target (data) architectures and drive the long-term vision for how our systems should be architected and integrated.

What you'll do

As a Senior Staff Engineer in AdTech, you will collaborate closely with Engineering teams from various domains and functions. Your role entails designing end-to-end technical solutions for product challenges, irrespective of the technologies involved (e.g., Data, Mobile, or Frontend). Therefore, in this capacity, you will:

• Collaborate with and provide guidance to Engineering teams and Staff Engineers in crafting technical solutions, ensuring alignment with our target data architecture.
• Serve as an active, solution-oriented member of autonomous, cross-functional agile teams, working alongside Product Owners, Engineers, Data Scientists, Marketing teams, and Experimentation owners throughout the entire Product Development lifecycle, from Product Discovery to Delivery.
• Demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of HelloFresh’s core product and architecture, acting as a proponent for technical solutions and best practices, while offering support and mentorship to colleagues.
• Tackle software and data challenges that come with visible risks, roadblocks, and constraints, such as legacy dependencies, data quality issues, compliance concerns, or architectural and technological limitations.
• Advocate for (Data) Operational Excellence, collaborating with teams and Engineering Leadership to identify and prioritize investments aimed at enhancing data quality and the resilience of data pipelines.

What you'll bring

• Deep Technical Expertise: Mastery of a broad range of technical skills relevant to Data, Backend, Frontend and Mobile Engineering, including expertise in database systems, distributed computing, backend development frameworks, mobile application development platforms and data engineering tools and best practices.
• Systems Thinking: The ability to understand complex systems at a holistic level, recognizing how different components interact and impact each other, and leveraging this understanding to design and implement scalable and efficient solutions.

• Leadership in Technical Decision-Making: Demonstrated leadership in guiding technical decision-making processes, balancing the trade-offs between various engineering disciplines, and championing solutions that align with HelloFresh's strategic objectives while ensuring technical excellence and long-term sustainability. Ability to lead and mentor engineering teams, providing guidance, support, and direction to ensure the successful execution of projects and initiatives.
• Effective Communication Across Disciplines: Strong communication skills to articulate complex technical concepts and ideas clearly and concisely, facilitating productive discussions and collaboration among diverse engineering teams, product managers and other stakeholders.
• Customer-Centric Mindset: A deep understanding of customer needs and preferences, coupled with a dedication to delivering solutions that enhance the overall customer experience, drive engagement and satisfaction, and contribute to HelloFresh's long-term success in the competitive food delivery market.
