The team
The Online Identity Services team is dedicated to developing and maintaining systems, tools, and SDKs that enable authentication and authorization integrations for our partner teams. Our primary goal is to support Engineering, Sales & Services, and Trust and Safety teams in delivering seamless and secure experiences for our Hirers and Candidates across all platforms. By building strong relationships and guiding architectural and delivery decisions, we are essential in scaling SEEK’s Identity infrastructure to meet the evolving needs of our users.
About the role
A senior software engineer is an expert member of our Engineering group. They are a fully autonomous professional, responsible for improving the technical alignment, health, and engineering practices within a team. You will develop software in a product & platform subdomain, contribute to engineering quality, coach and mentor other software engineers, and demonstrate passion for your craft through user centric, reliable, and scalable solutions.
Key accountabilities
- Plan & lead technical initiatives within the team, providing clarity and support for other software engineers to deliver solutions that are fit for purpose.
- Build, test, deploy, and maintain quality software from development to production, with clean, secure, and well-tested code that adheres to the best current practices.
- Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, ensuring systems are built and run in compliant, efficient, reliable, and resilient manner.
- Role model effective incident management & resolution through a combination of deep domain expertise and troubleshooting ability.
- Collaborate optimally and empathetically with peers and stakeholders, providing space for diverse opinions and feedback.
- Cultivate a positive team environment, contributing to the safety, work-life balance, and wellbeing of team members.
- Mentor hires and support the growth of team members.
Essential skills & experience

Modern engineering practice: Proficiency in building and maintaining software in a build-run team context using two or more modern programming languages (Go, TypeScript etc). Experience with data modelling (Athena, Splunk etc.), design patterns, and uplifting team engineering culture (ownership, tech-debt maintenance etc.).

Cloud & distributed computing: Proficiency in design considerations and failure scenarios for distributed computing. Experience with microservice architectures that mix synchronous (HTTP server) and asynchronous (background worker) components in a cloud environment.

Technical Architecture Knowledge: Experience with Event-Driven Architectures, distributed caching, security practices, and infrastructure is highly desirable.

Full Stack Perspective: Comfort with both front-end and back-end development, with the ability to envision and contribute across the full stack.

Agile Experience: Proven experience working in Agile environments and an understanding of Agile practices and principles.

Technical leadership: Experience leading the end-to-end delivery of technical initiatives, empowering other engineers by balancing support and autonomy, and providing a long-term view of the technical direction of software systems.
Desirable skills & experience

Expertise in JavaScript: Deep understanding of JavaScript and its ecosystem, including packages and packaging. Proficiency in TypeScript is a strong plus.

Front-End & Node.js Proficiency: Extensive experience with Node.js and popular front-end frameworks such as React and Vue.js.

Platform-Oriented Thinking: Ability to conceptualize and design systems with a platform-oriented approach, considering how components interact within a larger ecosystem.

Advanced Debugging Skills: Strong debugging skills extending beyond basic language-specific tools. Familiarity with advanced debugging techniques and tools is preferred.

Database Skills: Proficiency with both RDBMS and NoSQL databases, with a solid understanding of data warehousing and management tools used in daily operations.

Support & Maintenance Experience: Experience in support roles and familiarity with the nuances of support operations.
