The team
Indirect Platform serve as custodians of SEEK's integration platform. We host business-to-business products that enable integration partners to access our online recruitment marketplace. We provide a stable, secure, and performant access layer comprising a GraphQL API, webhooks, authentication, and authorization. The team also manage developer documentation, onboarding of hirers and partners, and internal support tools.
Day to day work involves a mix of autonomous project work and regular rituals, with stand-ups, retrospectives, and security & reliability reviews. We emphasise collaborative problem solving, continuous learning, and maintaining standards for security, reliability, and performance. Our technical initiatives aim to unify our technology stack, improve operational efficiency, and drive adoption of best practices. By developing critical platform components and fostering a cohesive platform strategy, we aim to deliver reliable services to our partners while supporting SEEK’s broader business objectives.
About the role
A senior software engineer is an experienced member of our Engineering group. They are a fully autonomous professional, responsible for improving the technical alignment, health, and engineering practices within a team. You will develop software in a product & platform subdomain, contribute to engineering quality, coach and mentor other software engineers, and demonstrate passion for your craft through user centric, reliable, and scalable solutions.
Key accountabilities
Plan & lead technical initiatives within the team, providing clarity and support for other software engineers to deliver solutions that are fit for purpose.
Build, test, deploy, and maintain quality software from development to production, with clean, secure, and well-tested code that adheres to best current practices.
Champion a culture of continuous improvement and operational excellence, ensuring systems are built and run in compliant, efficient, reliable, and resilient manner.
Role model effective incident management & resolution through a combination of deep domain expertise and technical troubleshooting ability.
Collaborate effectively and empathetically with peers and stakeholders, providing space for diverse opinions and feedback.
Foster a positive team environment, contributing to the safety, work-life balance, and wellbeing of team members.
Mentor new hires and support the growth of team members.
Essential skills & experience
Modern engineering practice: Proficiency in building and maintaining software in a build-run team context using two or more modern programming languages. Experience with data modelling, design patterns, and uplifting team engineering culture.
Cloud & distributed computing: Proficiency in design considerations and failure scenarios for distributed computing. Experience with microservice architectures that mix synchronous (HTTP server) and asynchronous (background worker) components in a cloud environment.
AWS technologies: Experience in a business-critical environment using AWS services, including DynamoDB, ECS (Fargate), Lambda, RDS (Aurora PostgreSQL), SNS, and SQS.
CI/CD & observability: Demonstrated ability to apply and improve continuous integration & continuous delivery (CI/CD) practices. Experience with logging, monitoring, and alerting to uphold software reliability and performance.
Technical leadership: Experience leading the end-to-end delivery of technical initiatives, empowering other engineers by balancing support and autonomy, and providing a long-term view of the technical direction of software systems.
Desirable skills & experience
Proficiency in developing Apollo GraphQL servers and Node.js HTTP servers, sharing code through monorepo tooling and npm packaging.
Experience as a consumer and/or producer of an external-facing integration platform, including documentation practices, schema design, and support modelling.
Experience with data analytics (Amazon Athena, SQL), distributed caching (Cloudflare CDN, Amazon ElastiCache), edge compute (Cloudflare workers, Lambda@Edge), event-driven architectural components (EventBridge, Kinesis, Step Functions), security infrastructure (IdP, WAF), and Kubernetes.
Ability to contribute across the full stack, from developing new back-end CRUD services to query engines, data pipelines, and administrative user interfaces.
