Senior Software Engineer

Eindhoven, Netherlands

Climate change is real and we need to act fast. Our purpose is to restore the carbon balance in our atmosphere. We believe it’s important to have a positive impact on society, the economy, and the climate. Are you ready to join us on our mission? 🌎

Role
Let’s start off by giving you some charcoal sketches on our team. Currently, the Carbyon team consists of 44 individuals (and counting!), coming from 11 different countries. Overarchingly, you could say there’s two main teams. On the one hand we have the team working on the sorbent (the material that adsorbs the carbon dioxide). On the other hand we have the machine development team, which essentially creates the machine to ultimately adsorbs and thus captures the carbon dioxide.

Within the machine development team we have different competencies (varying from Mechanical to Electrical Engineering and from Control Engineering to Thermal). Also, and that’s where you’ll sit, there’s the Software Team (thanks, Captain Obvious!). Essentially, the focus of the Software Team is two-fold. They focus on design, development and deployment of the embedded machine control software. Besides, they develop support and analysis software for an ever-growing team of scientists. Looking at the software team, you could say that they have strong affinity with cloud development, data analysis and embedded software. As we’re a rapidly growing team, with a challenging technology roadmap ahead, we need you to join forces with the Software Team as our new Senior Software Engineer. Looking at the current stage Carbyon is in, you could say we start with greenfield development of a new machine, turning our capturing technology into a scalable machine concept.

Responsibilities
Being aware of the context you’ll work in by now, let’s shift into your responsibilities. As your responsibilities are a consequence of your personal mission, we’d like to firstly highlight your personal mission. Essentially, this’ll be to take a leading role in the development of the embedded software that controls our DAC-machine, collects data and connects to the cloud. Turning this into critical results, you’re primarily responsible for the creation of control software for our new machine, ensuring high flexibility and high reliability. Besides, you’ll help drive key technical decisions to create an optimal software platform. Last but not least, you’ll contribute to a culture where quality comes first.

Although your role will be somewhat fluid, we’ve turned your personal mission and critical results into a list of responsibilities;

  • Collaborate with other disciplines to translate product requirements into subsystem software requirements
  • Translate architectural concepts from design into scalable implementations of machine functionality
  • Design and establish foundational software layers, ensuring seamless integration and operation. Aim for the highest flexibility and robustness
  • Contribute to an environment that enables software testing to maintain high standards of quality and reliability
  • Stay updated on emerging technologies and industry trends relevant to embedded software engineering and pro-actively propose improvements with new insights from the outside world
  • Be an inspirational leader to junior software engineers
  • Operate both autonomously and as a key player within multi-disciplinary teams, fostering collaboration and championing innovative, top-tier software solutions and design
