Senior Software Engineer (Go) – Foundation API

THE ROLE 📝 

As a Senior Go Engineer on the Foundation APIs Team, you’ll work alongside your peers to develop, optimise, and maintain services essential to our payment platform. You’ll encounter challenges in distributed systems, large-scale data ingestion, and secure transaction communication, all within a supportive, collaborative environment.  

This role is suited to engineers who enjoy solving complex problems as a team and are committed to maintaining high standards of reliability and performance. 

Responsibilities  

  • Design, develop, and optimise high-performance Go-based microservices that support payment processing by providing crucial operational data.   
  • Work with CockroachDB, RDS, S3, and GCP Cloud Storage to manage and store operational data, ensuring seamless data ingestion and query performance.   
  • Integrate with NATS for efficient inter-service communication, optimising asynchronous message handling and transactional notifications.   
  • Continuously refine services for cost-efficiency, balancing performance and reliability to meet strict availability and performance SLOs.   
  • Maintain high availability standards in a Kubernetes multi-cloud environment, operating across AWS, Azure, and GCP.   

 

WE’RE LOOKING FOR 🔍 

Essential 

  • Deep understanding of designing and building distributed systems 
  • Enjoys working on complex challenges within critical software where high performance and robustness are essential 
  • Familiarity with cloud and containerisation technologies, test automation tools and CI/CD pipelines 
  • Interest in owning projects end-to-end and supporting them as they go live in production  
  • Appreciation of clean code and software engineering best-practice  
  • Experience with Go, along with a “right tool for the job” mentality  
  • Great communication skills who enjoy sharing knowledge and collaborating with others, especially pair programming. 

Desirable 

  • Exposure to Kubernetes and/or CockroachDB would be great! 

 

TECH STACK ⚙️

Infrastructure: AWS, GCP, Azure, Kubernetes (EKS,GKE,AKS) 

Platform: CockroachDB, Elasticsearch, PostgresDB, Vault, NATS  Jetstream 

Tools: Flux, Terraform, GitHub, Prometheus, Pact.io, Tilt 

Code: Go (and a little Java), containerised microservices, open-source  

Ways of working: TDD/BDD, Pair Programming, 100% remote, SecDevOps, GitOps

The Foundation APIs Team provides essential services that support payment processing by delivering reliable access to operational data and ensuring seamless transaction support.  

Our APIs handle large-scale account management, secure customer notifications, message processing, and reporting. With an active-active, multi-cloud architecture, we deliver high performance and scalability to ensure that critical payment operations run smoothly.  

Our team culture is highly collaborative, emphasising “pair programming” and shared problem-solving, making this an ideal environment for engineers who thrive on teamwork.
