Control Risks is hiring a Senior Security Manager to support a major Energy client for a 6-month contract. This role will act as the client’s Security Manager for an onsite construction project in DC, to develop and implement a comprehensive security plan to support the company through the finish of construction into daily operations. This will include auditing current security protocols, understanding major needs of stakeholders, developing action items for the security teams, and setting the framework for future changes and growth. The successful candidate will have in depth knowledge of the local landscape, understand how to navigate multiple stakeholders, experience working with local police, and experience in the construction industry.

This role is a 6-month position, beginning from start date.

Responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Develop and implement comprehensive security strategies and protocols to safeguard the company’s people and assets as they finish construction on a major power plant.
  • Conduct an initial security audit to see where improvements can be made and understand current roadblocks to success.
  • Review, develop, and improve the client’s security, emergency, and contingency plans.
  • Assist in access control, perimeter security, asset protection initiatives, and emergency evacuation training and employee preparedness efforts by execution and review of lessons learned.
  • Coordinate with internal stakeholders and external partners to ensure alignment of security objectives and priorities.
  • Investigate and prepare reports on physical security incidents and suspicious activities.
  • Monitor security trends and developments to stay abreast of emerging threats and best practices in security management.
  • Serve as a liaison with law enforcement agencies, government officials, and other relevant entities on security-related matters.
  • Manages special security inspections and/or vulnerability assessments.

Requirements

  • Bachelor's degree in a relevant field (e.g., Security Management, Criminal Justice, Business Administration) required; advanced degree preferred.
  • 10+ years of progressive experience in security management, with a focus on physical security, crisis management, and risk assessment.
  • Experience working with construction security a plus.
  • Experience as a member of Law Enforcement (specifically DCPD) a plus.
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills, with the ability to motivate and inspire teams in high-pressure situations.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, with the ability to effectively convey complex security concepts to diverse audiences.
  • Experience working in a complex environment that will require you to engage with multiple vendors and manage relationships.
  • Familiarity with relevant regulations and standards governing security practices, including but not limited to ISO 27001, NIST, and DHS guidelines.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and prioritize competing demands effectively.
  • Professional certifications such as Certified Protection Professional (CPP), Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP), or equivalent, strongly preferred.

The base salary range for this position in DC is $70,000-$75,000 for the 6-month engagement. Exact compensation offered may vary depending on job-related knowledge, skills, and experience. This information is provided in compliance with D.C. Law 25-138.
