Responsibilities 

  • Design and implement thermochemical assays for a suite of sustainability-focused chemical transformations 
  • Work with the Automation/Engineering team to design thermochemical reactors and integrate them with analytical methods to evaluate material performance  
  • Design and implement accelerated stress testing for quantifying stability of both the catalyst and the reaction rate 
  • Design and implement experiments that reveal optimal reaction conditions and feedstock requirements, including tolerance to impurities 
  • Collaborate with Experimental team to test synthesized materials 
  • Collaborate with the Computational team to implement data processing, data interpretation, and quality control algorithms into thermocatalysis workflows 
  • Develop hypotheses and experiment-computation workflows, leveraging thethe custom thermochemical assays you develop 
  • Actively manage the execution of science campaigns based on the designed workflows  
  • Work with the Computation team to develop AI decision-making agents that accelerate hypothesis testing and exploration of catalyst, reaction conditions, etc. 
  • Work with the Science team to design integrations of thermocatalytic transformations into multi-step chemical processes 
  • Contribute to the design of scientific campaigns 
  • Analyze, report, and present findings of experiments to the FL97 research team 

Qualifications 

  • Hands-on and direct experience working with thermocatalysis and reactor engineering 
  • Experience with design and implementation of a breadth of thermochemical reactors, spanning packed-bed and batch reactors 
  • Experience with coupling reactors to analytical tools such as Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) and gas chromatography (GC) 
  • Experience with thermochemical systems engineering 
  • Experience with co-design of catalysts and reactions 
  • Experience with automation of thermochemical experiments  
  • PhD in Chemical Engineering, Chemistry, Materials Science, or related field 
  • Strong self-starter and independent thinker, with strong attention to detail 
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills, capable of conveying technical information in a clear and thorough manner 
  • Eager to work with highly skilled and dynamic teams in a fast-paced, entrepreneurial, and technical setting 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience synthesizing and characterizing multiple material types  
  • Experience with thermochemical separations 
  • Experience with workflow automation 
  • Experience with multiphysics modelling of thermochemical systems
