About the role

We are seeking an experienced Senior Scientist specializing in imaging technologies, and Oncology to join our expanding Translational Oncology Department at Alderley Park.

In this role, you will be critical in supporting all in vivo aspects of drug discovery projects, utilising specialist oncology disease models, whilst driving the use and development of imaging capabilities within the department and their application to in vivo oncology models.  Expertise in live imaging platforms, specifically bioluminescence and fluorescence imaging, is essential.

Principal responsibilities will include:

  • Application of their scientific and technical knowledge of the use of imaging platforms, specifically bioluminescence and fluorescence imaging in in vivo oncology models.
  • Application of their scientific and technical knowledge of the use of oncology pharmacology models in drug discovery.
  • Provides strong technical oversight in their area of expertise.
  • Lab based role with significant non-lab-based roles and responsibilities.
  • Planning, design and execution of work plans independently, with excellent time management to meet the project objectives, with minimal guidance from project leaders.
  • Responsible for independent critical analysis and interpretation of own experimental data.
  • Co-ordination of the delivery of high-quality scientific data and interpretation to projects/clients.
  • Presents scientific findings, interpretations, and recommendations to the project/functional team, and/or clients with minimal guidance from the project leader.
  • Provides scientific guidance and/or mentoring to less experienced team members to ensure high quality science is delivered
  • May supervise more junior team members.
  • May provide scientific, technical and commercial contributions to new project proposals, demonstrating a good understanding of the drug discovery process and application of Sygnature services at each stage.
  • Representing the company externally.

Key requirements:

  • Life Science PhD or equivalent
  • Track record in oncology drug discovery gained within the CRO, pharmaceutical or biotechnology sector.
  • Expertise in the use of live imaging techniques in oncology in vivo models
  • Experience of the use of oncology in vivo models in drug discovery.
  • Ability to interpret and problem solve complex data sets.
  • Excellent planning and organisational skills.
  • Ability to work flexibly and under pressure adapting to evolving project needs. 
  • Excellent team player with the ability to collaborate with internal and external cross functional teams.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills
  • An in-depth knowledge of ASPA 1986
  • High ethical and welfare standards
  • Keen eye for detail and concern for standards.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a larger team as required.
  • Excellent record keeping skills.
  • Individual should be self-motivated and enthusiastic.
