Senior R&D Systems Engineer

Full-Time
As the advanced research & development (ARD) systems engineer, you will  participate in two types of ARD projects: 
1) new technology development/demonstration and 
2) next generation lunar transportation, infrastructure, and resource utilization system architecture creation from initial concept to system preliminary design level. 
You will be part of a multidisciplinary team tasked with both technical aspects and inputs to business and finance sides (e.g. initial cost and schedule definition). You will work closely with the engineering teams in Japan, EU, and US, and you will contribute to the company’s R&D direction.
 
The position global, but it is based in Tokyo and reports to the Advanced R&D group Manager (CTO Group).

Key responsibilities

  • Lead and perform systemic analysis of key technologies as directed by the R&D roadmap of the company, reporting their value in the context of lunar transportation and cislunar ecosystem development, both for customers and for internal purposes.

  • Execute tradespace analysis to effectively integrate R&D developments into Ispace landers/orbiters/rovers, and increase mission value.

  • After the initial analysis is done, work closely with other teams and functions at ispace in the implementation of selected R&D projects, either for technology demonstration projects or for servicing customers.

Basic Qualifications

  • Minimum 6 years work experience:
  • At least 3+ years experience in systems engineering for space projects
  • At least 3+ years experience in one or more of the following fields in the context of spacecraft design: structures, thermal, power, communications, GNC, flight dynamics.
  • Working experience with modelling and optimization tools depending on the field of expertise (GMAT, STK, Catia, Thermal Desktop, link budget simulation, etc)
  • Experience on programming languages (Python, C, C++)

Preferred qualification (depending on the field of expertise)

  • Working experience on composite materials and their structural/thermal properties
  • Working experience on deployable technologies and flexible modes (panels, antennas, etc)
  • Working experience on radio-active heating/powering units
  • Working experience on interoperable nodes constellation design (intersatellite link, PNT, communication coverage)
  • Working on ISRU projects
  • 3+ years experience with python
  • Experience as systems engineering applying the Model Based Systems Engineering approach
