Based in Southern California with locations in Malibu, Calabasas, Westlake Village and Camarillo; HRL has been on the leading edge of technology, conducting pioneering research and advancing the state of the art.
General Description:
HRL Laboratories is seeking an experienced, motivated researcher with expertise in the theory of solid-state materials and devices to help develop emerging quantum information technologies. In this role, you will perform and guide the development of realistic physical models and numerical simulations to describe novel semiconductor-based devices such as quantum-dot spin qubits. You will work closely with a world-class team of scientists and engineers, providing theoretical input to device design, fabrication, and experimental analysis efforts.
Essential Duties:
Develop microscopic models of semiconductor heterostructure physics relevant to spin qubit operation and apply results to predict and optimize device performance.
Develop and use numerical simulation tools to model the electronic structure, quantum transport, and other key characteristics of solid-state quantum devices.
Work closely with epitaxy, fabrication, and cryogenic measurement teams to iterate and improve on device designs and analyze experimental data and trends.
Provide strategic plan and guidance to the team on key customer objectives/deliverables.
Help build and maintain relationships with our customers and partners through technical excellence and integrity (e.g. communications via reviews, written reports, etc.).
Support future business development involving proposals and critical strategic planning.
Required Skills:
Expertise in fundamental theory and computational modeling of the electronic, optical, thermal, and/or magnetic properties of solid-state materials and devices.
Knowledge of numerical analysis and scientific computing techniques. Experience developing and guiding the development of robust simulation codes.
Required Education:
Ph.D. and 7+ years of work experience in Physics, Applied Physics, Electrical Engineering, Materials Science, or related fields.
Special Requirements:
U.S. Citizenship is required.
Must have or be willing to apply for and maintain a security clearance.
Compensation:
The base salary range for this full-time position is $163,150 - $209,088 + bonus + benefits.
Our salary ranges are determined by role, level, and location. The range displayed on each job posting reflects the minimum and maximum target for new hire salaries for the position. Within the range, individual pay is determined by work location and additional factors, including job-related skills, experience, and relevant education or training. Your recruiter can share more about the specific salary range during the hiring process. Please note that the compensation details listed reflect the base salary only, and do not include potential bonus or benefits.
Don’t meet every single requirement? Studies have shown that some people are less likely to apply to jobs unless they meet every single desired qualification. At HRL, we are dedicated to building a diverse, inclusive, and authentic workplace, so if you’re excited about this role but your past experience doesn’t align perfectly with every qualification in the job description, we encourage you to apply anyway. You may be just the right candidate for this or other roles.
HRL offers a generous and very competitive total compensation and benefits package. Our Regular/Full Time benefits include medical, dental, vision, life insurance, 401K match, gym facilities, PTO, growth potential, and an exciting and challenging work environment (
