Role Summary
Your new team is searching for an energetic and talented quality assurance engineer interested in network security software.  As a gatekeeper of code and product quality, you can help extend Sophos’ industry-leading protection to detect, prevent, and mitigate even more exploits. This is a great opportunity to immerse yourself in a global software development team that is passionate about making very secure, high quality, very performant software.  

What You Will Do

  • You will be working as part of a team of experienced software development professionals in a team that has a healthy ‘continuous improvement’ mindset, and you are expected to be part of that culture. 
  • You will be working closely with Product Managers, developers, and other QA engineers to define and execute test cases (both for automated and manual execution), verify new product features during story development, and create regression test cases where needed. Our engineering workflows put emphasis on “building in” quality and you will be involved with all phases of development, from design to implementation to delivery. 
  • You will recommend test priorities, assess quality risks, report on test progress and raise issues as required. Depending on experience, skill and desire, you will be able to shape and influence your role and duties within the team. 

What You Will Bring

  • 3+ years of experience working with commercial software development 
  • 3+ years of experience designing and executing test cases based on high-level requirements or use cases 
  • Ability to learn and understand complex systems and technical issues 
  • Excellent troubleshooting skills 
  • Devotion to producing high-quality, high-performance systems 
  • Able to prioritize, focus and drive tasks to completion 
  • Experience with Unix/Linux command line 
  • Experience with (or willingness to learn) Perl 

  • Desired: 
  • Working knowledge of networking technologies 
  • Experience with application-level network protocols and proxies (HTTP(S), SMTP(S)) 
  • Experience using other scripting languages and tools e.g. Python, Bash 
  • Experience working in an agile environment
