Zoox is seeking a Collision Repair Engineer to lead the development of repair strategies, processes, validation, documentation, and spare parts planning. As an expert, you will review collision damages and create detailed repair procedures and documentation. You will spearhead a program to build in-house expertise and source external support to address issues with the current fleet, with a focus on developing scalable future solutions. To ensure the program's success, you will collaborate with Safety, Vehicle Engineering, Purchasing, Studio, Quality, Prototyping, and external vendors to devise innovative solutions. You will define repair requirements by working with the Quality team to establish repair standards and practices. In this role, you will:
- Lead the development of collision repair processes and serve as the subject matter expert for body repairs at Zoox.
- Collaborate with the purchasing team, acting as the technical expert in securing external services.
- Work with the vehicle engineering team to develop and validate solutions for executing repairs. Support and oversee collision repairs by coordinating with internal teams or external service providers.
- Partner with various cross-functional teams to create innovative solutions, enhance internal capabilities, define repair standards and requirements, and develop standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Formulate a spare parts planning strategy and work with the supply chain team to ensure proper spares planning. Develop a cost estimator for use during collision evaluations.
- Participate in repair activities to identify and document improvement opportunities. Collaborate with tooling engineers to create the necessary tools for advancing internal repair capabilities.
Requirements:
- Minimum of 7-10 years of experience in OEM automotive collision repair.
- In-depth understanding of industry practices in collision repair, with experience in both structural and cosmetic vehicle body repairs.
- Proven track record in process development, collaborating with cross-functional teams to create solutions, and independently managing multiple projects.
- Proficient in 3D CAD software.
- Bachelor's degree in Mechanical Engineering or Automotive Technology.
- Willingness to travel domestically for business purposes as needed.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Experience in developing OEM collision repair certification programs.
- Familiarity with working on forged carbon/carbon fiber automotive bodies.
- CATIA experience is an advantage.
There are three major components to compensation for this position: salary, Amazon Restricted Stock Units (RSUs), and Zoox Stock Appreciation Rights. The salary range for this position is $160,000 to $185,000 annually. A sign-on bonus may be offered as part of the compensation package. Compensation will vary based on geographic location and level. Leveling, as well as positioning within a level, is determined by a range of factors, including, but not limited to, a candidate's relevant years of experience, domain knowledge, and interview performance. The salary range listed in this posting is representative of the range of levels Zoox is considering for this position.
