Role Summary 

Divergent is seeking a Senior Product Engineer to join the Product Engineering team. This individual will be responsible for two things, deliver excellent products in conjunction with Divergent’s Platform team to push the art of the possible with the DAPS toolchain, and creating clear, actionable requirements for the Platform team (Software, Materials, Automation) so that the core DAPS toolchain continuously improves. 

This is a hands-on engineering role that sits at the intersection of execution and development within DAPS. The ideal candidate has strong design fundamentals, high rigor in documentation, and the ability to translate specifications, and engineering requirements into qualified products and contribute to Divergent developing scalable software tools. 

 

Key Responsibilities 

Product Execution 

  • Own delivery of DAPS-enabled components for customer programs, focusing on B2P and MFAM scopes. 
  • Translate customer part and drawing and requirements into complete engineered designs and comprehensive verification and validation campaigns. 
  • Create AM-optimized CAD models, drawings, and design packages conforming to customer and internal standards. 
  • Develop clear part requirement decompositions, including structural, tolerance, finish, inspection, and acceptance criteria. 
  • Coordinate across internal specialists—FEA, FEM, CAE, Design, Materials, AM Process, and Test—to execute required analyses and empirical tests. 
  • Drive issue resolution and design trades with a systems mindset. 
  • Represent Divergent to customers with clarity, professionalism, and technical credibility. 
  • Compile full Technical Data Packages (TDPs), including models, drawings, validation reports, and traceability documentation, for customer delivery. 

Platform Requirements Generation 

  • Accountable to  Platform lead (Sam Miller,) to identify and articulate gaps in workflow efficiency, tooling, or data structure. 
  • Convert platform pain points into actionable tasks, or projects for software, automation, and materials teams. 
  • Characterize what “great” looks like for platform workflows and was to automate or accelerate them. 
  • Trial and validate new DAPS tools and integrating them into the DAPS workflow. 
  • Provide structured feedback loops from real programs to guide platform development roadmaps. 

 

Qualifications 

Required 

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or equivalent. 
  • 3–7 years of experience in mechanical design, structures, or product engineering. 
  • Strong proficiency in CAD (NX, CATIA, or SolidWorks) and engineering drawings (GD&T). 
  • Excellence interpreting and decomposing complex engineering requirements. 
  • Familiarity with FEA, FEM, CAE workflows—able to coordinate analyses even if not performing them directly. 
  • Experience performing structural test planning, empirical validation, or materials/process qualification. 
  • Understanding of additive manufacturing principles (LPBF preferred). 
  • Demonstrated excellence producing high-quality design packages and documentation. 
  • Excellent communicator for internal and external customer engagments. 
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, first-principles, cross-functional engineering environment. 

Preferred 

  • Experience with Build-to-Print or AM/MFAM design efforts. 
  • Knowledge of TDP creation and defense/industry documentation standards. 
  • Prior involvement in developing requirements for software or tools used by engineering teams. 

 

Work Environment

  • Work is performed in an office environment and requires the ability to operate standard office equipment and keyboards.

 

Compensation

  • E06 / Lead: $155,540 - $213,840
