About the position:
Location: Houston TX (hybrid)

The role of the Senior Product Compliance Engineer is to develop and execute an effective product compliance strategy that aligns with the company's business goals and objectives. The candidate will play a crucial role in creating a culture of compliance within the company and will ensure that requirements from standards are embedded in all aspects of the business related to energy storage systems products. Their work will contribute to the company's reputation, sustainability, and long-term success in the industry.

Responsibilities:
• Design and develop a comprehensive compliance program tailored to the specific product regulatory requirements and industry standards for Fluence’s energy storage products
• Track applicable safety standards. Analyze requirements and implications of new standards and impact on Fluence products. Communicate results and coordinate with R&D and systems engineering teams
• Determine product safety approval test scope, develop a preliminary plan of compliance, and determine project specifications such as cost, lead time, and sample requirements
• Assist in finding solutions to certification testing challenges
• Examine test samples and read and understand the schematics, wiring diagrams, and operational instructions. Evaluates existing product specification versus upcoming changes in regulations and standards and provide feedback to the technical teams
• Conduct risk assessments to identify potential compliance risks and vulnerabilities within Fluence products. Based on the findings, develop strategies to mitigate these risks and ensure adherence to relevant laws, regulations and standards.
• Regular reporting to compliance & certification team and relevant stakeholders to ensure transparency and accountability.
• Interact with regulatory authorities, industry associations, and other relevant stakeholders to build positive relationships and influence and stay informed about compliance trends and best practices

What an ideal candidate brings to Fluence:

  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • 7+ years experience in design and implementation of global compliance standards for products such as: batteries, electrical systems, HVAC, inverters or other industrial products
  • Knowledge of UL & IEC product requirements and understanding of the regulatory compliance and certification process.
  • Experience leading quantitative and qualitative analyses.
  • Experience with regional and global regulatory requirements. 
  • Knowledge of battery related standards such as IEC62619 / UL1973 / IEC62933-5-1/-2 / UL9540 / UL9540A / NFPA855
  • Success working independently, handling multiple tasks, and determining priorities in a team environment balanced by an ability to collaborate effectively and translate smoothly across multiple disciplines or functional groups
  • Bachelor’s degree in engineering or related field
  • Deep understanding of battery systems is a plus
  • Knowledge and experience related to battery storage related IEC/ISO/UL/IEEE and other related standards is a plus
  • Experience in creating Hazard and Risk Analysis and Risk Assessments according to ISO12100 / IEC61508 or similar.
  • Participation in compliance / standard related councils
  • Willingness to travel
