Frontier Medicines is seeking a highly motivated individual to fill the position of Senior or Principal Scientist to join our Disease Biology team. The successful candidate will play a leading role in leading the biology efforts aimed at elucidating drug mechanism of action and pharmacology on a high priority pipeline “first-in-class” projects. The Disease Biology Scientist is a key contributor to Frontier Medicines’ success who will be reporting to the Senior Director of Disease Biology and will routinely interact with other senior leaders. This is an opportunity to join and work in a highly collaborative and energetic team in a startup environment with short communication lines across functions and departments. This role requires at minimum a PostDoc in molecular biology and/or cellular biology of cancer, with at least 4-8 years of relevant pharma/biotech experience, or PhD with at least 8+ years of relevant pharma/biotech experience.

Requirements

What will you be doing?

 

  • Define key biological experimental strategies to investigate drug mechanism of action, identify novel disease models, identify biomarkers for patient selection, and understand mechanism of sensitivity and resistance to covalent inhibitors of key known undruggable oncogenes.
  • Contribute to target selection and target validation to ensure the development of a robust preclinical pipeline of valuable drug discovery programs.
  • Contribute to project teams and the preclinical development of lead assets to achieve project deliverables as needed.
  • Supervise and mentor junior scientists that are directly working on the same project as well as other projects on the pipeline as needed.
  • Effectively communicate with colleagues and stakeholders; create and present research updates and provide strategic input to team/company meetings.
  • Coordinate with external contract research organizations and with other collaborators, as needed.
  • Maintain a clear, detailed laboratory notebook to document all experiments and findings.
  • Comply with best laboratory safety practices.

What are we looking for?

  • PostDoc in molecular biology and/or cellular biology of cancer, with at least 4-8 years of relevant pharma/biotech experience, or PhD with at least 8+ years of relevant pharma/biotech experience.
  • Experience with mammalian tumor cell engineering and associated techniques including CRISPR and siRNA/shRNA knockdown, transfection, lentiviral prep and lentiviral transduction, single clone generation and analysis.
  • Experience with cellular and biochemical techniques, including immuno-blotting, high-throughput cellular assays, target engagement, protein-protein interaction, and viability assays including CTG and Incucyte, QPCR, AlphaLisa, PPI assays.
  • Experience with use of OMICs databases such as DepMap, TCGA etc.
  • Required: Experience in cancer biology, working in oncology drug discovery project teams, cancer cell-based assay design, assay development and drug testing.
  • Required: Excellent communication, organization, and technical writing skills. Strong problem-solving skills, ability to learn new skills.
  • Required: Demonstrated track record of accomplishments and publications in cancer biology high profile journals.
  • Ability to work with and manage multifunctional teams. Ability to influence other teams by maintaining connections across teams. Ability to identify problems and to propose solutions within the team and across teams that leads to positive changes.
  • Able to prioritize multiple tasks and competing objectives to ensure timely completion
  • Anticipates problems and develops contingency plans for the identified problems. Regularly and clearly communicates status and progress on objectives to key stakeholders.
  • Ability to work with independence and drive in a startup environment.

At Frontier we strive to build a diverse and equitable workplace. The salary range for this role is $130,000 - $170,000. Compensation for the role will depend on a number of factors, including candidates' qualifications, skills, competencies and experience.
