We are looking for a Senior Platform Engineer to join the small team designing and building the platforms and systems to support a number of vital functions across Our Future Health. You'll be instrumental in building and enhancing the main Analytics platform used across the organisation, enabling us to integrate with new data types and sources and also promote good engineering practices within the analytics and science teams.
You'll be helping deliver our mission of enabling cutting edge health research across a cohort of 5 million volunteers. You'll be working across the entire platform – from recruitment of and ongoing engagement with participants and their data through to enabling research via Trusted Research Environments. We work in agile, cross-functional teams who follow modern software development practices whilst maintaining our strong guarantees around trust, privacy and security.

What you’ll be doing
- Participating in the design and review of platform architecture and design documents.
- Working in cross-functional teams that are creating and launching new services.
- Working closely with partners or suppliers to consult on integrations and more complex systems.
- Working with product managers and other stakeholders to gather requirements, define technical specifications, and develop and implement solutions.
- Supporting your colleagues with pairing, peer reviews, coaching, discussion, and other collaborative activities that help everyone reach high standards and result in the delivery of high-quality software products.
- Engaging in collaborative sessions towards refining requirements, formulating architectural proposals in support of upcoming initiatives.
- Participating in reflective sessions such as retrospectives or incident post-mortems and offering suggestions on how we can improve and help to drive change.
- Participating in support rotations that monitor live systems and quickly and effectively reacting to potential incidents and providing support to operations teams such as customer support. This could include being part of an out of hours on-call rotation.

Requirements
You will have experience in some of the following:
- Proficiency in cloud DevOps/platform engineering practices. Azure experience strongly preferred; experience with an additional cloud preferred (AWS or GCP).
- Demonstrable experience coding in Python to production standards.
- Experience in building/deploying tools related to data pipelines, ETL processes.
- Confident with cloud-native technologies like Kubernetes and Docker.
- Experience designing, supporting, and troubleshooting production systems at scale.
- Experience working with software engineering best practices, including unit testing, code reviews, design documentation, and excellent debugging and troubleshooting skills.
- Experience implementing continuous integration/deployment tools and practices.
- Experience of working in an agile methodology, accustomed to code reviews and pairing.
- Ability to adapt, change, and grow quickly as we scale the organization.
- Excellent communicator in person, in writing, when presenting, when creating diagrams, specifications, and documentation.
- Experience working closely with analysts and scientists on design principles and best practices.
- Excellent understanding of database concepts, modeling, SQL, and query optimization.
