Packfleet is hiring a

Senior People Manager

London, United Kingdom
Full-Time

Big delivery companies have had it their way for too long. They leave parcels where they shouldn’t, they don’t deliver on time, and sometimes they just don’t deliver at all. It’s painful not just for the consumer, but for the merchants too. Lost parcels and breakages cost merchants a lot of money and risk them losing their customers forever.

We’re on a mission to change that. We’re rebuilding the delivery service from the ground up, using our own tech and electric vehicles to fundamentally change the way things work. We’re building the best deliveries on earth 🌎

We’re backed by incredible investors like Creandum and General Catalyst, have an exceptionally high Trustpilot score and landed a spot in the Startups 100 list (again!).

The People function at Packfleet is a small but nimble team with big ambitions. We manage the entire employee lifecycle for both our star HQ team, who are building a generational company from the ground up, and our amazing driver/warehouse team, who are on the front line every day to deliver our excellent service.

We’re searching for a Senior People Manager with big ambitions to make Packfleet the best place to work for all of our team.

What you’ll be doing day to day:

  • Building out our People Experience strategy across all stages of the employee lifecycle, for both HQ and front line teams.
  • Running key projects that align to our People Experience, such as feedback rounds and salary benchmarking.
  • Owning existing policies/practices and implementing new ones that put Packfleet on the map as an amazing place to work.
  • Manage and coach our People Operations team (currently one person)
  • Provide day to day support to the wider team on more complex things regarding People, HR and culture.
  • Build out our talent acquisition strategy, setting the guard rails for future hiring efforts across the team.
  • Drive employee engagement and satisfaction across both our front line and HQ teams, understanding what makes each group tick.
  • Handle the more complex employment relations cases with professionalism and integrity.

This is a general guide, but we’re a startup so you could get involved in all kinds of projects 💥

👋 People at Packfleet

We’re a small team with a strong vision of creating a people-first culture. The Packfleet founders are ex-Monzo so truly understand how important the People function is. It’s also a key part of our strategy - a great experience for drivers is how we ensure high quality deliveries.

We’re big on transparency too, as we believe it drives the right outcomes. You’ll see we give the expected salary range for this role up front and we have internally transparent salaries too. People strategy isn’t just an afterthought at Packfleet, it’s front and centre.

We use a range of tools, such as Employment Hero as our HRIS and Linear as our people ticket management system, as well as the normal tools like GSuite and Notion.

We’ve got huge ambitions as a company so you’ll be joining at a great time. We’ll support you in levelling up your career to make sure you don’t just have fun, but also learn some amazing skills and get to see all parts of the business.

🏡 Logistics (pun intended 🫢)

This is a hybrid role. Our office/depot is based in Bermondsey, London where we aim to spend at least 2 days/week together. Being in the office/warehouse is great for keeping us close to the day to day physical operations, so we get to see on a granular level how Packfleet operates.

💌 How to apply

You can apply here in just a few minutes, and if you have any questions or queries you’re welcome also to drop an email to [email protected] as well. We aren't able to sponsor visas for this role.

💛 Our commitment to diversity

We care deeply about creating a diverse team so we particularly encourage applications from people from different underrepresented demographics and encourage you, regardless of your background and past experience, to apply if the role excites you.

If we want to solve problems for people across the UK (and one day around the world), our team has to represent those we’re solving them for. So we need to attract the best talent and create an environment that supports and includes them.

Requirements

You should apply if:

  • You’re excited about what we’re doing! We’re a technology company working in a very traditional industry and that gives us a huge opportunity to build something truly different.
  • You’re comfortable getting hands-on in an early stage startup environment. We’re still a small team and so you’ll be involved in everything.
  • You don’t need to have experience in last mile delivery, but you should have experience in an operational company. We’re looking for someone who understands what matters to front-line employees and is able to confidently divide tasks between People and Operations teams.
  • You should also be well versed in best practices for HQ people (such as engineering, sales and other functions). You’ll be able to run projects, gather feedback and continuously make them better.
  • You’re able to handle uncertainty - we’re a startup and things change fast, so you should be comfortable that what works today might not work the next.
  • You’re able to empathise with everyone from our longest serving HQ team to our newest drivers, but you should also know what’s a reasonable request vs someone pushing their luck.
  • You’re CIPD qualified and have an excellent understanding of Employment Law in order to manage company risk. You should be comfortable with the intricacies of the three different employment types (employed, worker and self-employed).

Benefits

What you’ll get:

  • A competitive internally-transparent salary and stock options in Packfleet, with the choice to trade-off salary for additional stock options on signing. The range for this role, based on level/seniority and salary trade-off, is £60,000 - £70,000 alongside meaningful equity.
  • Experience at an early stage startup, with a team that’s taken companies from zero-to-one before.
  • A close knit working environment where everybody is working in the same direction, with regular monthly socials.
  • A company & culture that cares about the people within it, with benefits like health insurance, mental health days-off, a learning budget, internally-transparent salaries and 35 days holiday (inc. bank holidays) with top-ups & unpaid holiday if you need more.
  • Our Recharge Day on the last Friday of every month: a paid day off, to spend doing something you enjoy with others in the team, rest and recuperate, or a bit of both.
  • A budget to spend at our merchants every month, as well as free deliveries through Packfleet, so you can support independent businesses and also get the Packfleet experience first hand.
  • The equipment you need to work to your best.
