Mama Money is a growth stage fintech startup working to help migrant workers in South Africa send money home. Since 2015 we have been providing reliable remittances, at a socially fair price, to those that need it most.
Mama HQ is in beautiful Cape Town, South Africa. We are 131 people strong (and counting) from 19 countries across Africa, Asia, the UK, and Europe. Our culture is built around the

In order for us to continue to grow we need to ensure that we continue to build and maintain strong relationships with our key partners, grow our cross-border remittance product, expand our customer footprint, and scale new products such as our new banking and inbound products.
In order to do so, we need a Senior Partnerships Manager who will be the central point in everything that relates to all partner products, relationships, initiatives, and commercials.
As our Senior Partnerships Manager, you will focus on these key areas:
- Strategic Business Development
- Look for opportunities to expand Mama Money’s network and range of services within the retail, fintech and payment partner space
- Co-create opportunities with partners to strengthen Mama Money presence and accelerate its expansion, especially related to distribution and expansion
- Work with the business development team to negotiate deals and terms with key partners in order to grow our volumes and expand our presence, creating win-win situations
- Ensure smooth launch of new partners, working within Mama Money and with the partner and making sure issues are quickly resolved
- Key Account Management
- Own the relationships with our strategic value chain partners and work with key people to ensure Mama Money’s agenda and values are well represented
- Understand the strategic positioning of our value chain partners, and how the partnership can be enhanced for growth purposes
- Regularly assess the commercial value each partner brings and in conjunction with other core competencies, identify areas of improvement and opportunities, working closely with our finance team and treasury teams.
- Keep up to date on all developments as it relates to Mama Money competitors regarding their partners, product, and pricing.
- Understand the challenges different departments are facing with our partners and look for solutions
- Growth & Operational efficiency
- Working closely with the partners and marketing teams to facilitate key marketing activities in order to drive increased volumes.
- Ensure all suggested product improvements and changes are well communicated.
- Working closely with our sales team to ensure coordination between field agents and retail partners.
In your first 90 days at Mama Money you will:
- Meet and build relationships with all our existing partners
- Understand the commercial performance with every partner and which levers we can pull to maximise growth
- Suggest and action strategies in which we can be commercially competitive for growth
About you:
- You have 5+ years of experience working in a similar role within the retail or payments industry
- You have a good understanding of the African and South African payments landscape and payment networks
- You have amazing verbal and written communication skills and are comfortable engaging internal and external stakeholders
- You have exceptional coordination skills, are disciplined and well structured
- You are able to use data to make informed decisions
- You have a strong commercial acumen and understand the dynamics of payments
- You are resilient to stressful environments with problem-solving abilities and are able to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment
- You care about the impact of your work and you want to work with a really passionate and fun team

- You have experience working with migrant communities
- You have worked within the fintech space or at a rapidly scaling startup
