ABOUT THE POSITION
As a thermal Engineer, you will:
•Be part of Battery energy storage new enclosure R&D team.
•Will closely work with New Product development team, engineers from non-mechanical domain, program managers, product manager, requisition team and other stakeholders.
•Perform concept and detailed Design & calculations using cutting edge tools and prepare procurement specifications for cooling System (Coolant piping, accessories and layout, cooling components such as Chiller and HVAC, refrigerant and glycol-based liquid coolants)
•Interreact with supplier and develop the robust, reliable, safe, cost effective & high-quality closed loop cooling system for battery & electronic component cooling.
•Ensure product design standards are adhered to common international standards, such as NFPA/ASME/ANSI/ISO/ASHARE
•Identify risk & opportunities and deliver the creative solutions.
•Responsible for the timely releases of the engineering documents for cooling system design.
•Be involved in root cause analysis (5 Why’s, fishbone, DFMEA etc…) when a problem statement is raised inside engineering.
•Manage non-conformity reports, supplier deviation requests of cooling system.
•Lead, manage and own the component interfaces with other engineering cross-functions.
What will our ideal candidate bring to Fluence?
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering with 5+ years of experience in the field of thermal management design of electronic enclosures or battery system
- OR
- Master’s degree with specialization in engineering mechanics, thermal and fluid sciences or equivalent and have 3+ years of experience in BESS enclosure design and engineering. Strong experience with large Battery Energy Storage system (BESS) Enclosure thermal system design.
- Strong technical knowledge in 1D analytical calculation with emphasis on cooling system design using engineering fundamentals and cutting-edge tools such as ANSYS (Fluent for CFD) & MATLAB.
- Create specification documents for Chillers, Plumbing, HVAC, and Cooling units, based on product requirement and CTQs. Interface with equipment suppliers/manufacturers to validate design and test requirements.
- Experience implementing heat transfer analysis through conjugate heat transfer (CHT) simulations.
- Experience with developing product from conceptual stage to mass production.
- Know-how of end-to-end design and development of new component. Hands on with Creo, BOM, Quality control, supplier qualification & design reviews.
- Ability to automate Numerical Simulation workflow using either Ansys Workbench or custom post and preprocessing scripts.
- Previous experience in executing CFD simulations in HPC (high-performance computing) environment, either on-prem or cloud-based solutions.
- Strong skillset in thermal system design – plumbing component, HVAC, Chiller, fans, component & material selection, DFMEA, DFM & DFA, etc.
- Knowledge and experience of mechanical design, hands on with CAE tools, understanding of battery operation fundamental will be added advantage.
