Solidigm is hiring a

Senior Mechanical Design Engineer

Vancouver, Canada
Full-Time

You will be part of hardware design team in Data Center Engineering (DCE) organization that designs and validates Solid-State Drives (SSD) for data center applications. As mechanical design engineer, you will collaborate with the PCB and manufacturing team to optimize component placement and SSD enclosures for high volume manufacturing (HVM). You will be creatively applying your technical know-how engineering fundamentals, analytical thinking against design constraints to develop and productize cost optimized SSD drives. You will also build proof-of-concept prototypes to perform Design-of-Experiments (DOE’s) and instrument prototypes for thermal and mechanical stress analysis to perform feasibility studies.

To accomplish your deliverables, you will use HVM process knowledge to create design models in CAD software packages like SolidWorks.  You will analyze your design for thermals using CFD tools like FloTherm and for thermal-mechanical reliability using FEA tools like ANSYS-Mechanical. You will work on developing key relationships with internal design teams, Solidigm outsourcing organization as well as suppliers to plan comprehensive product strategies based on future technologies.

    Required Qualifications

    • BS or MS in Mechanical or Aerospace Engineering degree with 5-10 years of experience working in a design and analysis team supporting HVM products.
    • Minimum 3-5 years of experience in at least three of following areas:
      • Designing for HVM processes such as die casting, metal stamping, extrusion, injection molding.
      • Drafting manufacturing drawings per ANSI Y14.5 and GD&T standards. Conducting and verifying assembly tolerance analysis using EXCEL, JMP or equivalent tools
      • Thermal analysis using CFD tools e.g., FloTherm to optimize design and improve product development time.
      • Thermal-Mechanical reliability analysis using FEA tools e.g., ANSYS-Mechanical to assess risks and mitigate those by design optimization.
    • Experience in generating experimental verification test plans for dimensional compliance, thermal and mechanical stress measurements.
    • Efficient in creating project management plans, schedules, and strategy to meet requirements and perform risk assessments.
    • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects and meet deliverables’ timeline with no compromise on quality and performance.
    • Demonstrated good verbal (public speaking) and written (in the form of reports and presentations) communications skills.
    • Motivated, self-directed, and able to work effectively both independently and lead in a team.

    Preferred Qualifications

    • Minimum 3 years of experience of applying of mechanics of materials, Heat Transfer, static and dynamic structural analysis to mechanical design.
    • Experience working in manufacturing production units such as high pressure die casting, sheet metal, extrusion, molding etc.
    • Verifying manufactured parts quality and process, and approving parts analyzing First Article of Inspection (FAI) for production.
    • Experience working on Solder Joint Reliability of electronic packages and calculating their fatigue life during shock or thermal cycling.
    • Product Data Management (PDM) tools such as Windchill.
