About the role:

Samsara is seeking a Senior Manufacturing Design Engineer to manage our manufacturing processes at our joint design manufacturing partners. They will be responsible for the development and qualifications of assembly & testing processes, as well as implementation of quality controls across the supply chain in support of launch and success of our hardware product portfolio. They will work end to end in the product lifecycle - from concept, develop, through sustaining and end of life. The ME will work closely with hardware & software engineering, as well as our operations teams on day to day activities and organizational goals. Ideal candidates will be adaptable, approach unstructured problems with curiosity while finding solutions, and communicate status to the working and leadership teams.

This is a hybrid position in our Taipei office, open to candidates based in Taiwan. This position requires travel up to 20% of the time. Relocation assistance will not be provided for this role.

In this role, you will: 

  • Spearhead the development of manufacturing processes at the factory to drive line qualification, manufacturing test metrics, and rigorous validation plans for high volume production
  • Collaborate with Engineering teams on system-level design for manufacturability (DFM), identifying and mitigating process risks early in development
  • Drive factory health metrics including yield, throughput, RMA rate expectations
  • Unlock factory optimizations through lean, six sigma, cycle time studies to unlock highest efficiency
  • Develop and implement testing & quality control plans  to ensure compliance to product specifications, throughout our supply base
  • Focus on continuous improvement through manufacturing sustaining until end of life
  • Champion, role model, and embed Samsara’s cultural principles (Focus on Customer Success, Build for the Long Term, Adopt a Growth Mindset, Be Inclusive, Win as a Team) as we scale globally and across new offices 

Minimum requirements for the role:

  • 10+ years of experience in high volume electronics industry
  • Degree in electrical, mechanical, manufacturing engineering or equivalent
  • Solid technical background in factory operation management, manufacturing process engineering, manufacturing test engineering and quality management
  • Demonstrated ability to own Failure Modes Effect Analysis (FMEA), Root Cause Corrective Action (RCCA), as well as 8-D problem solving
  • Experience with electro-mechanical product design and assembly, including CAD, tolerance analysis, and test engineering (power, optical, RF, etc)
  • Experience with EE/FW system architectures, wireless device design, and/or optical system performance
  • Ability to travel to manufacturing partners up to 20%
  • Exhibited ability to collaborate with cross-functional teams and drive independent work
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English
