We are looking for a Senior Manager of Technical Accounting & External Reporting with a strong technical accounting background in US GAAP. This is an individual contributor role on a team of five, reporting to the Director of Technical Accounting & External Reporting. This is a global position and will partner closely with global and regional accounting teams, treasury, FP&A, product, tax, HR and other teams across the organization to assess the accounting implications for Visa’s core and emerging products, business initiatives and strategic alliances. This role will also participate in the preparation and review of Visa’s quarterly and annual SEC filings (10-Q and 10-K).
Essential Functions
- Act as one of Visa’s technical accounting subject matter experts.
- Exercise judgment within defined policies and authoritative literature to determine appropriate accounting on significant and unusual transactions.
- Ensure appropriate documentation of accounting treatment of complex and highly judgmental transactions, including analysis, relevant literature, and conclusion.
- Evaluate the impact of certain new accounting standards, prepare assessment papers, and execute the implementation.
- Create and maintain accounting policies and partner with stakeholders to operationalize accounting policies and procedures.
- Participate in the preparation and review of financial statements and footnote disclosures for 10-Qs and 10-Ks as well as earnings materials.
- Assist in the presentation of on-going technical accounting training to the finance organization.
- Work with internal and external auditors to support quarter-end reviews and year-end audits by providing timely & accurate data and communication.
- Assist in quarterly and annual impairment assessments, as well as special accounting and finance projects on an ad-hoc basis.
- Execute all responsibilities in compliance with our SOX 404 internal control framework.
This is a hybrid position. Hybrid employees can alternate time between both remote and office. Employees in hybrid roles are expected to work from the office 3 set days a week, with a general guidepost of being in the office 50% or more of the time based on business needs.
Basic Qualifications:
• 8 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or at least 5 years of work experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD) or 2 years of work experience with a PhD
Preferred Qualifications:
• 9 or more years of work experience with a Bachelor’s Degree or 7 years of experience with an Advanced Degree (e.g. Masters, MBA, JD, MD) or 3 years of experience with a PhD, including 3+ years Big 4 accounting experience
• Excellent technical knowledge of U.S. GAAP
• Effective technical writing and research skills, and solid experience in the implementation and handling of complex U.S. GAAP accounting matters
• A team player, adept at building relationships across the organization
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Powerpoint and Outlook)
• Certified Public Accountant (CPA) is highly desirable
• Strong problem-solving skills and ability to apply sound judgment in order to:
o facilitate problem identification,
o generate alternative solutions,
o adapt to changing situations, and
o manage issues to a successful resolution
• Demonstrated knowledge and proven experience researching accounting guidance and documenting accounting treatment of issues for a variety of topics, such as revenue recognition and hedge accounting
• Proven ability to research, clearly articulate, and document complex technical accounting issues
• Outstanding organizational and project management skills with extensive experience managing multiple complex assignments simultaneously.
• Excellent interpersonal and presentation skills, including written and verbal communication, especially in developing positions and presenting to management, auditors, and non-accounting stakeholders.
• Demonstrated professional commitment, initiative, accountability, and ownership of assignments.
• Experience in the preparation of financial statements and footnotes for a publicly traded company.
Work Hours: Varies upon the needs of the department.
Travel Requirements: This position requires travel 5-10% of the time.
Mental/Physical Requirements: This position will be performed in an office setting. The position will require the incumbent to sit and stand at a desk, communicate in person and by telephone, frequently operate standard office equipment, such as telephones and computers.

U.S. APPLICANTS ONLY: The estimated salary range for a new hire into this position is 142,200.00 to 206,350.00 USD per year, which may include potential sales incentive payments (if applicable). Salary may vary depending on job-related factors which may include knowledge, skills, experience, and location. In addition, this position may be eligible for bonus and equity.
